Pawn shop find: Jabel solitaire ring

I am definitely a newbie, but I would love your opinions on this ring. My husband and I found this in a pawn shop and paid $250 for it.
Marked 18K-JABEL
1/4 carat diamond
setting has milgrain edging on front and sides, but not the back.

The first few pics don't do it justice. The diamond is very white with lots of sparkle. I will be taking it to a jeweler this weekend to get his input.

I confess that I did not know anything about Jabel until I saw the hallmark and googled it, but I am thrilled about everything I've read. Their die-set process seems to add a lot of durability to the ring. I know that this is a very basic solitaire, but I wonder if there is any way to tell how old it is?
