I''ve noticed most princesses seem to have a pav angle of around 40 mine is closer to 60, is this necessarily a bad thing? And why since I have found this site am I so obsessed with figuring out every detail of my brand new diamond???

Just did some quick reading, trying to understand. Could my large-ish table be the reason for the higher pavilion angle? How will this affect my stone''s appearance. If it is only that it faces up smaller I really don''t mind.

Princess-cuts have two main pavilion angles, one around 40 and one around 60.

The smaller one defines the pavilion depth, and if your pavilion depth is around 60%, then your most important pavilion angle (which is at the basis of light return) is around 40°, which is a very good start.

If the other pavilion angle is around 60°, that is also a good start, since it could go up to over 70*, in which case there would be a lot of hidden weight in the pavilion area.

Unfortunately, many vendors only list one of the pavilion angles, and there is even no convention on which one they choose.

Live long,

Thank you so much Paul- really put my mind at ease! I thought it was possible I had bought a freak diamond!!! Yes my pav depth is close to 60 as well- so this is good!
