Pairing trillion cut accents with a 1/2 carat emerald cut center stone?

I am trying to come up with a decision between three stones engagement rings and need some help. She likes emerald cut diamonds and is more concerned with the overall look of a ring than the size of the center stone and I don't have an enormous budget so the center stone will probably be around 1/2 a carat or maybe a little more. It's pretty much a split decision between a three stone emerald or an emerald trillions combo. If it goes the three stone emerald way, I think I'd go with side stones that are a 1/3 of the size of the center stone, but if it goes the emerald cut trillion way I am a little unsure if that combo works with a modest center stone. Someone mentioned in another thread that trillion cut accents aren't the best choice when paired with center stones under a carat. Any thoughts on proportions and trillion cut accents would be helpful. In the end i think I'm looking for understated elegance. Oh yeah, she is on the petite side and has a 5.5 ring size.

In my experience, a 1/2 carat emerald cut center is really on the small side for trilliant side stones. The trolls would have to be so small that the prongs will cover most of the stones.
I hope things helps!

Skinny tapered baguettes can look lovely with a 0.5ct emerald cut. What is your overall budget? We can look for some options.

Is it the Emerald shape, specifically, she is looking for - or just the step-cut style? An Asscher might give you some wiggle room to go up a bit in carat weight for a similar budget while maintaining the desired step-cut look - and potentially open more options for side diamonds.

Years ago a very good friend of mine had an emerald cut 3 stone made as an engagement ring. It had a .6ct center, and 2 x .2ct sides - ie 1 ct in total.

It's gorgeous, and she still gets compliments on it when she goes to restaurants, wears it to work, or any other number of things. It's a beautiful, classic ring, which will never go out of style, so - having actually seen one - that's definitely my choice.

Thank you for the advice so far. To answer a few questions, my budget is around 2k, give or take, and she is definitely attracted to the rectangular shape of the emerald cut. There is a setting on Adiamor, R3160, that I’m considering. A modest three stone emerald is a winner and I think the size would work, but the idea of using trillions on the side snuck in. More of a question of them working with anything under a carats. Prongs covering too much etc.

I'm laughing, this is the same ring everyone has been suggesting to OP. His intended prefers a white metal. OP, have you reached out to David Klass yet to inquire as to rhodium plating?

Changing up the setting or rhodium plating the existing is about the easiest thing. The preloved ring provides a better value which is why we are excited about it. Nonetheless, it’s OPs choice how he wants to proceed. Some poeple would not entertain pre-loved and that’s ok, but the value is there.

I vote for three emeralds or three step-cuts. Mine (see my profile pic) is a combo of a squared emerald and two trillions. Personally speaking, I feel the contract between the center stone and the sides are two big due to the very different light reflection characteristics of the two cuts.

i will second @SimoneDi on the tapered bullets, it is SO CLASSY! JA has a setting that i like better than the other 3 stone you were looking at on there. but it does not have the pave band (i don't think it is necessary though in a three stone style)

Blue Nile also has a setting but i think the JA one is more refined

IDJ has an even much more affordable setting: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/180708341135

They can also find OP a great emerald on budget. I would absolutely consider them.

i do apologize, i got this OP mixed up with another thread from yesterday about a three stone emerald ring! :roll

Thanks for all your work SimoneDi. The baguette might just be an option. And thank you clcat120 for your personal insight. Some very helpful solid advice. I do appreciate the Klass ring very much. It totally hits the mark but the rose gold and preloved status are the deal breakers. Again, thanks for all your generous help.

I would contact ID jewelry (they are in NYC) and send them the link to the setting. Let them know your budget and they will find you some stone suggestions. I would recommend spending the majority of the budget on the center stone (like the 0.7ct I posted earlier) you might be surprised to find what’s in budget. Good luck!

I am not a fan of trillions-I think they are dead looking stones and designed to provide coverage. I especially do not like them with step cuts. Either go with EC, tapered baguettes or bullets.
