Hi there,

Looking for any advice on the attached two ovals from any folks that are familiar with what to look for in ovals!

They are both 2ct F VS2.

Thanks!

Its really hard to make anything out of the second picture (its not focus to where we can see the faceting pattern in the stone). The first stone looks like
its got a wide area of big facets through the center area and then smaller facets outside of that area.
Does it look similar to this?

Pay attention to how the stone reacts as it turns...you want to see more facets come into focus headed from the center down towards the pointed ends.
If the first stone you posted reacts like the stone I posted in the link above then I would say its pretty decent.

Here is what I like to see in a good oval. Lots of sharp, well-defined facets flashing on/off under the table.

Thanks tyty! Here is a video link of the two rings side by side. The left one in the video is the second photo above, and the right one in the video is the first photo above. My preference is the right one only because it has optimal/lower depth and therefore has greater surface area on top and makes the ring look larger / more fuller. The only thing I am uncertain about is the extent of the bowtie effect and whether it is too prominent or not (relative to other ovals if I continued searching). Thanks again - would really appreciate your thoughts!

I can see what you are talking about MisterA. The stone on the left looks to have all small facets which provide lots of little sparkles and
the stone on the right has the larger facets through the center which provide bigger flashes (but less) and then smaller flashes outside of
the center. We like to see nice feathering from the center area of big flashes to the area of smaller flashes.

Are you limited to these 2 stones? What is your budget?
Size wise here is what they would look like on a size 6 1/2 finger, 2mm shank. First stone in video on left, bigger stone on right.

Thank you again tyty. I could not have articulated what I seeing better than you did.

I'm not limited to these two, however these were two that I found through a mutual contact so trust the process a bit more.

For a 2ct, E or F, VS2 (or potentially SI1), my budget is in the low 20k range. If it was an ideal looking cut I would go slightly higher. And while I'd like to be able to find the stone soon, I'm not on a rushed timeline.

If there were any other avenues that you would suggest to find the right diamond, it would be great to hear. I really appreciate your continued help on this.

I checked James Allen and they have this one...how do you think it compares to the bigger stone that you have seen?
Its 9.92x7.24 so pretty nice size but not too shallow.

To bring up any of the BlueNile stones you'll need to hold your shift button down while you click on the link (well, thats how it works on my machine)
This is an SI1 so you would need to ask if its eye-clean

Pretty stone but not quite as big as others...
https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD08621156
https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD08588335 has some big facets at the ends which you may or may not like

VS2 but probably not eye-clean...bummer because it does have a nice cut

Some of these bluenile stones are available at Enchanted Diamonds at a lower price.

These are all great suggestions tyty - thank you! I am hoping to find an oval with at least a 1.4 length to width ratio, and the second link you provided seems to fit the bill well.

Here is another one that I've come across and I feel it fits my specs quite well (I've attached two images and included two video links below). Would love to hear your feedback on it!

What I like: Has a good ratio, good table/depth dimensions, great color at E
What I'm not sure about: SI1 so would need to check if eye-clean, Has faint fluorescence (not sure how much of an issue this is for ovals?)

What's very interesting about this one (relative to the prior one I provided which had darker/larger facets with more bowtie) is that in the first video link below (taken on iPhone in natural light), the bowtie seems quite minimized! In the second video (under magnified/professional video), the bowtie is more evident.

Can you ask them to do another video like the first one above (from a distance) with some light on it so we can see
the facets light up?

Up close videos can cause obstruction from the camera lens but its odd that I see no faceting pattern in the video at a distance.
This stone does have an arrow going straight across the center so I would expect to see at least that in the further away video.
It doesnt look like the same stone which makes me nervous.

Edit...and definitely ask if its eye-clean because that inclusion in the middle of the table may be a no-go.

Here you go tyty! Two more videos. Hopefully this provides enough angles. Please let me know what you think. Thanks again!

I think it looks pretty good...no bow-tie to speak of. Hard to tell about the light return but I say it looks pretty good.

How is there return policy in case its not as expected?

Edit...what kind of setting is this going into...halo or more of a solitaire?

Hey tyty (or others), I am really hoping to get your advice/comments on three more diamonds that I've found that align to my desired specs. I am visiting this location again tomorrow to see the three stones (and hopefully decide!) before I fly out of the city, so any comments would be great!

And to your prior questions, their return policy is 30-days (although I am seeing them in person versus remotely) and this will be going into a classic solitaire style ring. Also, the prior ring that looked good ended up getting sold prior to me coming back into the city to see it in person! Which is why I'm looking at these three new ones.

FSI1:

EVS2 #1:

EVS2 #2:

All three rings side by side under their lighting:
(not a fan of how these come out on video under this lighting)

All three rings side by side under regular / daylight:
(looks better on video under regular / daytime lighting)

My focus has been on limiting bow-tie (which I believe these have less of prior to some of the prior ones I had looked at), a ratio close to 1.4, and overall brilliance of the diamond.

Your thoughts would be appreciated!

Any thoughts on this one would really be appreciated. I believe I'll be moving forward with it (of the three listed above)!
