Our cockatiel babies are thriving. They've been in their own cages for 3 weeks now. I'd decided that mom and dad were NOT getting another breeding box. We definitely don't need any more birds. Well, before I got the babies out.....mom decided to lay some more eggs.

We kept hoping that they wouldn't hatch, since at one time the babies were in the box with the eggs and they got moved alot. Yesterday, I thought I heard something, and this is what I found. Anyone interested in a pair of Breeding Cockatiels?

haha, awwww how cute!!! I love baby animals!

I had a baby cockatiel I handfed and handraised once and it was awesome... until... well 13 years later I still can''t talk about it :*( I would LOVE someday to have another baby and handraise it... just one though, don''t want to start a business!!! hahaha :D

i had a breeding pair like that. mom kiiled herself eventually laying eggs. she loved it though, made her happy.

1. can you make money with this? i eventually befriended a pet shop, who bought hand fed babay cockatiels from me for 20 bucks a piece.

2. if not, i had to separate them in two side by side cages when i didn't want them to breed. they could still be near each other and pet each others head but they couldn't mate. took the nesting box away too, but then they laid eggs in my salad bowl on top of the refrigerator. so then i had to only let them out one at a time.

3. there is birdie birth control, available at the vet. PIA though.

Thanks everyone.
I''m worried about mom laying so many eggs. I''m afraid it will kill her. I think the 2nd egg is ready to hatch. This time she laid 6.

They have to be separated...we have dividers for the cage. But neither would have much room. Should I do it now or wait until the babies get older? Dad helps alot with the babies. They''re good parents.
I''ve never heard of birth control for birds. We''d been wondering if there was anything. Do you know what it''s called? Laying eggs in your salad bowl.....

you will need one big cage for each one. and Do let them out, as it would be like locking you in a walk-in closet and never letting you out. let dad help with this batch. . separate them immeditaely if you see them, errrrr, mating.

yes, they have once a month birth control for these breeders. this is a good option.

when mom breed uncontrollably like this it's a good sign that they are happy and content, feel safe and are very well fed. compliment to you.

gerber "mixed" pablum, strained newborn vegetarian baby food and grits with butter are good baby feeders.
