I stumbled on this PS website and loved that Pokey special ring. I have my grandmothers 3ct cushion loose sitting in a drawer and want to wear it! Any suggestions of what setting looks best if I DO NOT want people to think it is an engagment ring??? yes- I know wear it on the right hand- but guys still will think I am "taken." And I don't want it to look like a cocktail ring that should only be worn at the opera. I am so impressed with leon rings and so many others- but these are beautiful engagement rings and I am not ready to make my own engagment ring! Don't want to put it in a pendant because I rarely like to wear necklaces- really want a ring. Advice?

I would put it in a split shank setting like the pokey. I don''t know what else you can do to make it less "engagementy" though. Maybe instead of white pave use another color?

I was thinking of that, but I am afriad I will get tired of a color. All the nice ones that Leon does and I saw the link of all the pics--wow! I do have a fun citrine ring that is split shank so i felt obligated to get something different. Decisons! decisions!

If you can''t do a split shank, then I''d probably do a three-stone right hand ring. That would be beautiful!

ditto, you could also do some type of colored sidesstones for the 3 stone ring and that looks even less engagementy to me.

I also love the idea of a 3 stone ring, guess I am a fan of them in general. Adding color, such a cushion sapphires, or even cushion tsavorites would be yummy. Leon could source the stones for you. You are so lucky to have your grandmother''s 3 carat cushion. I can''t wait to see this project unfold.

I really love the 3 stone idea. Very classic. What are opinions for best looking shape for side stones with main stone cushion? I have seen pics with half moons on sides (I think this is what they are called?) and not my style because looks sort of antique to me with milgrain, etc. I want it to not look antique or too "over the top." I love the pave, but thinking this will add to engagment ring feel if put any micro pave on band. I think pave keeps things delicate and this is what I am looking for rather than clunky, but edging closer to engagement again. Maybe straight bagettes or just pears? Does someone have a model favorite from Lean or other picture to help guide me?

I would do pears...sapphire pears

Would I get a good price for pears with leon or should I try to find them on my own through suggestions on this website? I travel to NYc several times a year- is it worth it to wait and bring stone in to see leon in person and try some things on? Gather his opinion about setting that looks more rhr? It seems like many others go with him without a face-to -face consult.

I would let Leon pick the sidestones and yes, his prices are competitive on them. I would do either baguettes or even cushion sides. I think a cushion center with blue sapphire cushion sides would be stunning!!!

Ellen- thanks for those pics. I have never heard of "shield" cut for sides, but looks cool. You think shields make ring look younger than pears? Pears look more conservative or too round with a cushion? I know pears look great with ovals. I really like those shields.

I am not so sure about using all cushions- very pretty but reminds me of 3 stone engagment rings. Does anyone have a nice link to cushion with straight bagettes?

You''re welcome.

I don''t know if I''d say shields look younger, but they don''t scream old lady.

As for pears, I dunno, it all just depends on proportions, setting...

Here''s a thread with a cushion and bags, about 1/3 of the way down the page.

Oooh, I really love Leon''s five stone setting with a cushion center. It''s amazing! And it''s delicate but it has no pave so it won''t look as "engagementy." Here''s a picture:

What a HUGE help with that link with the examples. Seeing them all together really shows me the difference. Just so I make sure I know what I am talking about-

the names of the sides, in, order, are...

1.2 moons
shields
bagettes
trillion?? what are these triangle ones called? they look nice.
the last one not so crazy about so don''t need the name.

I also LOVE the 5 stone example of Leon. That is a favorite, It is hard for me to tell what cut of side stones. Bagettes and half moons??? Help with that? Now- next question... if I use Leon I am going to do whatever he suggests- but will five stone look a bit showy? If the center is 3 ct... I just am trying to stay away from "cocktail". originally I liked his 3 stone rings, but 5 is very very very interesting. If I went with 5 stone idea- people still say just let him pick side stones at whatever price he quotes, right? They are part of the setting so he will quote me setting price- then I add the center stone? (some what new at this custom stuff- sorry!!) Any other thoughts about bringing stone to see him in person- or I just talk on phone?

I noticed different prongs with cushions- I think prongs are usually ugly and want them not seen. What do i ask for to get this? I just don''t want to see lots of metal on top of stone. Will he insist on having two prongs for each corner due to size?

Yes, those are trillions.

I''ll be honest, for me personally, with a 3 ct. center to begin with, I''d only have 1 sidestone each. But that''s just me.

I''m sure some others will chime in saying they''d like it. It''s really a personal thing. However, with 5 stones, it WILL be somewhat showy, I don''t think it can help but be....

If you''re close enough to see him in person, I''d definitely make an appt., and take the stone in so he could see it.

As for the prongs, tell him you want the smallest possible, that you don''t really want to see them. I''m sure he''ll put what is smallest, yet secure for the stone. If you don''t want two prongs tell him. Whether he''ll agree with that, I don''t know.

I agree with you that 5 is to much for my concept. I don't mind double prongs because this might hold the ring better, but in other posts it says LM pretty much ends up doing what he wants and even though I can walk in and tell him I love his style number so and so- he might still put on prongs like seen in pic attatched. My favorite sides are still those shields, or he might want to put on bullets/ once he sees stone? I completely trust his judgement on this one- but saw all the mark morell pics and maybe since I am not going with pave- I can wait until he is less busy and see if he can set? I have family in Boston area so I can probably swing by to see him in person too. For 3 stone with no pave- is it a coin toss on who to use?? I assume they will be roughly same price for similar designs? Seems like I can't go wrong either way, but MM might have softer look for prongs???

Like this Ellen???? Is this too ER like? I dunno, it is stunning.....

cheers--Sharon

Sharon, yes, I love that ring!!

And remember Green, prongs look WAY bigger in these photos than in real life. Mine look huge, yet you can barely see them in real life.

Yes- the flow of the MM ring is to die for. The stone has been sitting on a drawer forever- i can wait for time to open up with Mark. I looked on his website and really did not see a lot of shots from the side. I know front/ top will look great, but I want the sides of prongs to look delicate and not boxy. I saw someone''s amazing 3 stone princess cut by MM, but sides of prongs too sturdy and substantial I think for my taste. Any side shots of this MM pic that is linked above?
