Went to my jeweler (whom I trust) to pick out a stone for the engagement setting I bought...which is a better option?

0.91 ct
depth 61.4%
width 55%
crown height 15%
pavilion depth 43%

medium thickness. faceted
polish and symmetry are both excellent
H color
Si1 clarity

"Excellent Ideal Cut" from the EGL
Also says 8 hearts and 8 arrows, which I''m not too sure about, but on the Halloway Cut Advisor it comes up as a 0.8.
$3,150

OR a 0.97 un-rated stone that when compared side-by-side has a better color (probably at least G) and the jeweler said has an Si1 or Si2 clarity. I really couldn''t tell the difference between the two as far as light return. $3,650. Both are eye-clean.

SO, does the report really matter that much? Which one would be a better buy? Any opinions or advice would be great. Thanks

Hi Dolby,

It would be useful to know which EGL lab graded this diamond, such as EGL USA, Antwerp, Israel etc? If you could get that info it would help, as EGL USA are said to be the strongest of these labs. Also concerning H&A, because a diamond might show heart and an arrow pattern and is advertised as such, doesn't necessarily mean it meets the strict standards to be an actual example of this cutting style.

If you want to buy the above diamond, then I would suggest you make the sale final ( and get it in writing) that you can return the diamond should it not check out to your satisfaction in all aspects with an independant appraisal. Here is a tool you can use to find an appraiser in your area.

To be able to compare the other diamond, we would need all the proportions please - does this one have a grading report?
