Any opinions on this diamond? Do you think the clarity could affect the way the diamond looks?

My advice - do not buy S12''s unless a trusted vendor can physically look at the diamond and tell you it is eye clean.
Eye clean is eye clean (I know this is not clearly defined), whether it be IF or an S12 so going as low as possible in clartiy grade is appealling and there our great bargins out there that for whatever reason get pinged when graded on clarity. Twinning wisps and feathers are good examples of an S12 that can be completly eye clean. Inclusions are usually visable. Clouds may significantly affect light perfromance.

As this diamond has clarity issues right in the middle of the table, and you can''t verify with the vendor if it is eye clean I would pass.

Hi BA

Lets take a look.

It appears to be a nicely cut stone, the main concern here is that the clarity grade is based on clouds, in some cases these can negatively impact performance so you would need to ask your BN rep to investigate if the stone is eyeclean and if the clouds are having an effect. I would be inclined with this diamond to get another opinion concerning the clouds from an independant appraiser during the return period, here is a tool you can use to find an appraiser in your area.

I am having that diamond checked to see if it is eye clean- if the response is yes, would you still say to stay away from it?

I wouldn''t necessarily stay away from it but there are concerns I would definitely want addressed such as the clouds and their effect so to be on the safe side if BN said it was eyeclean and the clouds weren''t an issue, I would take it to an appraiser to be certain during the return period.

I was looking at a HSI2 stone yesterday and it looked so much different(duller) than F and G colored stones compared next to it. I thought I was super color sensitive but then I compared the HSI2 with a HSI1 and the HSI1 was a lot brighter.

The HSI2 stone was triple EX and eyeclean. I guess it must be the clouds that AshNZ mentioned that caused the duller look.

I wonder if it''s usually the case for all SI2s or just SI2s that have clouds. Is it really hard to find a SI2 clarity that doesn''t negatively impact light perfornance? I was thinking of going down to a SI2 myself to get a larger sized stone, but I''m reconsidering it.

SI2 is a broad range, some will be clean and some will have ugly, performance-inhibiting inclusions. You can find winners but you have to be prepared to weed.

I agree, I just came from Whiteflash''s office today after looking at an SI2 that they told me over the phone was amazingly eye clean, they were even surprised when they looked at it. After seeing it with my own eyes I am very very happy to have it! (http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-2231269.htm) But had I not had the opportunity to look at it myself I think I might be wary of SI2''s, not because they are categorically bad, but because as others have mentioned, I think you have to really get lucky to get an eye clean one.

So I guess in short, it depends on what you are comfortable with, if you trust the vendor''s assessment of eye clean (you might also ask them what their "eye clean" policy is, Whiteflash clearly has it labeled on their website what it means if they call a diamond eye clean), then go for it, but just be sure to check it out before the return period is up!
