Do you think a shank of 1.5mm or less is too thin for an ering with a 1.7ct RB? Any thoughts would be helpful. Anyone with something that thin run into any problems with it being too delicate?

Thanks in advance!

if you actually mean less than 1.5mm, that is a VERY thin shank for a sizable stone.

I definitely would not do it, but if you're absolutely in love with the look and are prepared to A) baby it and B) not be surprised when (not if) it warps, it may work for you.

Thinner shanks width-wise will often be thicker in height to compensate somewhat - vertical height cannot provide the protection against torque during wear that horizontal width will, but something is better than nothing. Metal will also play a role - what metal are you contemplating?

This is for a plain shank. Expecting a pave'd shank that thin to stand up well to longterm everyday wear is a recipe for disappointment.

Thanks Yssie.

It will be platinum. I'm thinking the same as what you said. I do love the look though but may be too much "babying" as you said.

I have a 1.5 mm with a 1.5 ct cushion - it's fine ... no special babying but I always take off my rings at home and don't do anything rough with it. I had it for around 5 months and no issues yet. I have a 1.3 mm with a 1.7 ct cushion being made - will let you know how it goes. Both rings are pave.

Thanks CharmyPoo! Do you have a picture of your 1.5mm you can post?

I have a 1.69 cushion with a very thin band. I believe it is 1.4mm, made out of platinum. I've had it for about 7 months and it has not warped. I wear it pretty much all the time and though it has a very delicate appearance it feels very sturdy. However, I do have a friend with an engagement ring by the same designer. Her band is even thinner than mine and has warped in under a year of wear. So I do think it is a definite risk.

Here are a few pics so you can see the proportion etc.

Good luck!
