I''m looking to buy a 2+ct RB diamond for an engagment ring and need some advise. Here are my top options in no particular order. Which would you choose? All are GIA certified:
1. D SI1, 8.24mm, mb fluor, HCA=1.4, $21k
2. E SI1, 8.27mm, mb fluor, HCA=1.6, $20k
3. F VS2, 8.28mm, mb fluor, HCA=1.8, $23k
4. G VS1, 8.41mm, strong blue, HCA=1.3, $26k
5. H VS2, 8.47mm, mb fluor, HCA=1.5, $23k
6. H VS2, 8.48mm, inert, HCA=.8, $23k
7. F SI1, 8.27mm, inert, HCA=.9, $20k
8. G VS2, 8.30mm, inert, HCA=1.4, $24k

Thanks

7 or 2, depending on how I felt about the flor...I haven''t see it. I think I''d prefer without, but many pros like it here.

And...I''d only buy with confidence I could return it, after having an appraiser who I trusted to review for performance, look at it.

That is limited info, but I''d want an F or G VS2 out of those choices, assuming all are GIA Excellent cut.

I would make sure the SI1s are eyeclean for whatever your specifications are i.e. can the vendor see the inclusions from a foot away? 6 inches away? Make sure you are comfortable with whatever they say.

If you are comfortable, I''d totally go for the #2 E SI1 or the F SI1.

Have you seen these diamonds in person? If not, if possible you should get an idealscope image to check out the light return.

Good luck with your search!

Lots of money being spent, I would make sure that I knew what I was purchasing for that kind of money. Cut is KING!!!

There is been great advice given so far. Pictures, certifiicates, idealscope and asset images, sarins, gemex etc. would be great. Make sure they have lifetime upgrade and a great return policy.

Good Luck

For that kind of money, I would want to see them in person if at all possible. If not, get as much info as you possibly can from the vendor. #2 looks like something that I would be interested in.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely request an IS image, magnified photo, and Sarin report before I purchase. The concensus so far seems to be to go for the higher color choices, staying away from H. What are the chances that a diamond with an HCA score of 1.8 will have a great IS image?

Interesting, and reasonable...conclusion. Actually, I was picking out your lower cost options among a largely favorable set. Consistent with their being lower cost...they were also higher color. The VS2 was drawing up the price, and causing you to need to raise the color...which is of course, a bummer. Also, however, as you get larger, supposedly, the SIs will more readily show those inclusions. If you don''t want to see these, and you''re like many you won''t, and you find your SIs do show them, I might then back up to go for those VS2s.

Then again...there''s # 8 & 3...but you will pay more.
