Good Morning All,
One of my Best friends is getting a divorce and needs $$$ quickly,
I have a chance to upgrade my current GIA Color I Clarity SI2 (feather on the table).87 vg/vg/vg cut diamond ring with her EGL 1.25 ex/ex/ex ring. She is letting me wear the ring for a week to help me decide, I am attaching some pics I took with my cell phone. I know they are not the greatest pics but its the best i could do ! :) I was wearing an orange shirt at the time so the diamond has an orange tint to it...lol

I compared my diamond to hers and this is what i see, I say her G is pretty close to being right, I see no hint of yellow and its whiter than my I. Clarty wise, I can only see a few small blemishes with a loupe that are off to the side of the diamond, It is totally eye clean to me, and as for the side view I see no inclusions at all! :appl:

The diamond looks beautiful, nice and whate, sparkles like crazy, but it does look awful under direct sunlight & flurescense lighting.

These are the stats of the diamond:
EGL Internantional
6.94 x 6.90 x 4.30
Color G
Clarity VS2
depth 62.1
table 57%
crown 15%
pavilion 44%

What would you do??

First, comparing an EGL cert to a GIA cert is not comparing apples to apples. Very likely, her EGL G/VS2 would get an I/SI1/2 from GIA. That said, how much is she asking for the stone and what would you do with your stone?

Shes asking $4000.... I was thinking of selling mine so I wouldnt have to be outta pocket much...

^This.

I wouldn't do it.

First: Your friend's diamond scores a 4.5 on the HCA, so the cut is likely not excellent it's fair.

Second: It's graded by EGL, which means you really don't know what you're getting. There is a reason people send modern RB stones to EGL for grading, and it's not good.

Third: When I did a search here on PS for EGL-graded stones at 1.25 ct G VS2, the fair cut stones are only going for a little over $5,000 new, which means even if you did want a stone with these less-than-desirable stats, you could buy one for just $1,000 more from an actual jeweler, and that stone would also come with refund and upgrade policies, which you won't get when buying from a friend.

If you really want to upgrade via the secondary market, I think you can do MUCH better than this. Keep an eye on the Preloved section here.

Pardon, but do you really want to wear one of your BEST friend's ring from her marriage that's dissolved? Wouldn't she be reminded every time she saw you????

I asked her that exact question....She said" She paid for thed diamond herself and she wouldn't be selling it If she really didn't need the $$"
