I'm having a pink sapphire eternity band made to stack with my white gold diamond eternity band. I can't decide if I want the sapphire band in white gold or rose gold. I've attached photos of both types of gold (my ring will be all pink sapphires, but these are the best photos I could find). Also, I've attached a photo of the sapphires that have been sourced for me (the photo with the small stones). They don't look "clear" like the photo of the larger, single sapphire. Do you think that's because they are so small (.15)? Could I do better? Thanks for your help!

As for the rose gold vs. white gold... Do you like mixing metals? Do you ever wear any other metal colors other than white gold? I find that I only wear white gold- BUT I like the idea of rose gold and that would allow me to mix in other rose gold items with my white gold. If you are someone who only owns white gold and pretty much aside from this ring will only wear white gold then I would say stick with the white gold.

My opinion on the sapphires is that they are small and piled up in the pick and there isn't direct light focusing on them in the picture so that may attribute to the "unclearness".

Thanks Amy. I typically only wear white gold, but I kind of like the idea of rose gold. I just wish I could try it on before I make a decision. I've been to several jewelry stores in town to see if I can find something similar, but haven't had any luck. I just keep going back and forth on what I want and need to make a decision. Aaarggghhh. I'm just want to be happy when I get the band!

totally understand! Lately I have been toying with the idea of a rose gold band with pink sapphires as well, and my thoughts go back and forth on it- i only wear white gold- BUT it would be nice to add in that touch of color and then be able to mix in more rose gold! For all I know- rose gold might look terrible with my skin tone! ugh, touch call...either way I love the alternating pink sapphires and diamond look and really don't think you can go wrong with whatever metal you pick!

I personally like diamonds in rose gold, but not colored stones for some reason, so I'd stick with white gold personally.

I think the large stone has a better light source, the 'lil ones are in a pile up, which is probably not helping their color any.

I like the rose gold, but prefer the white gold with the pink sapphires. I think that the white gold will enhance the color of the sapphires better. JMO. :wink2:

I love the contrast of the rose gold with the sapphires. I think it really makes the sapphires pop. I'm for mixing metals too...
I think it adds more interest...but if you are mostly a white gold wearer will you be comfortable throwing in some other
metals?

I don't know if I'll be comfortable with the rose gold tyty, that's kind of the problem. I think it's lovely and I *think* I'd like it with the pink sapphires, but I don't know which would look better on my hand....grrrr....why are these things so hard to decide???

Have you tried on any rose gold rings? You will certainly get a sense of how the metal looks on your hand even if it is not an eternity band ring. For months I hankered for a rose gold ring - I finally ordered one and when it arrived, it was beautiful! On my hand, not so much. The rose gold seemed to blend with my skin and kind of disappear - I didn't like the look at all, and returned the ring. After that, I trekked to the mall to try on a couple different rose gold rings (different shades of rose gold, and different setting designs) - still did not like it on me. So if you haven't already tried a couple of rose gold rings on, I encourage you to do so before making your choice.

If you already know you like rose gold on your hand, then it is a bit of a dilemma. I've seen pinky rose gold "blend" in to the pink stones it was holding, and I myself did not find that attractive. And I wouldn't care for the peachy rose gold with pink stones. If it will be all pink stones and you want to wear it with your white gold / white diamond eternity band, I would probably go with white gold. If I were to bring in rose gold, I would probably still do the setting in white gold, but line up 2-3 pink sapphires, then a white diamond, then a tiny rose gold ball, then another white diamond, then 2-3 pink sapphires, like that. If the rose gold was the right shade, I think that could look both cool and elegant.

I look forward to seeing what you end up with!

Doesn't the person making this ring have any prototype you could try on? I love the rose gold, but I want to clarify yours is FULL eternity and note 3/4 (as the first pic appears). I mix metals, but on full eternities, so there isn't a yellow solid next to a white solid piece, if that makes any sense. BTW - I have an all sapphire eternity from Facets and it's yellow gold - I think it really makes the pink show!! Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies and opinions. The photos I showed aren't quite what I'd be getting. The sapphire band is ONLY sapphires, no diamonds, so solid pink.

The photos below are only 3/4 eternity...mine will be almost full (I had my diamond band made with two stones missing from the botton to enable easy sizing in the future). The sapphire band will be the same.

I've tried to go out and look at rose gold, but so far, the closest I've come is rose gold and diamonds. The rose gold looks nice against my skin tone, but I'm not sure if rose gold will make the sapphires look less pink?

Motown, do you have a photo of your band? If so, would you mind sharing it? Maybe I'd be better off with yellow gold! :?: As for a prototype, the person making the ring lives across the country from me, so I have no way of trying anything on.

I think either would look lovely. If it were for me, I'd pick rose gold- but I LOVE mixing metal and diamonds and colored stones. Here are a few pics with pink stones in rose gold and pink stones in rose gold next to white gold.

More pics...

In searching, I noticed that some rose gold looks more pink while some looks more yellowy pink- I like both though.

Yenny- now that you said you are only having pink sapphires and no diamonds, my vote is definitely for the white gold. You wear that metal mainly- but also I would be concerns that the pink sapphies would get lost in the rose gold and there isn't too much contrast. Do you want the indidicual stones to stand out or do you want the overall look of the ring to be pink?? That I think is the real question.

LA Love, thank you so much for taking the time to find these examples for me. Especially the one with the white gold bands with the single rose gold band with pink sapphires. I agree that there any many tones of rose gold and I've asked the jeweler to send me photos (in daylight) of the rose gold he uses. Hopefully, that will help me make a decision.

Here's all pink sapphires in white gold.. (these don't seem as nice a color as yours but just for an idea..)

At first I thought I'd definitely like white gold because I thought the sapphires would get lost in rose gold. However, after looking at lots of pics, I way prefer rose gold. I don't think they look lost at all- I think together they look very romantic. Just my opinion of course. :)

No problem! I love that stack. I think it's very beautiful and unique. After looking at all these pics closer, I think I prefer a more yellowy pink rose gold with pink sapphires- the sapphires "pop" a bit more since the contrast is a bit more than the pink stones next to pinkish rose gold.. Does that make sense? LOL

Thanks Gecko! Tacori's ring is lovely! I'm leaning towards rose gold, assuming the jeweler has the "tone" I want....

I am a rose gold fan. I think with the sapphires you are using they will be able to hold their own in any metal color. Does your jeweler have any plain rose gold bands? That may give you an idea of the tone their rose gold. They may be able to do a custom alloy if it is not to your liking.

hey YF!

love your ideas. Just curious if you were intereted in adding color, or both? adding color and different metal to your set? just purely imo... so take it with a grain of salt.

For cohesiveness, I'd keep the metals the same color, just add your sapphire to give your set a little punch but it still matches per se.

not sure if it makes sense...like this:

-White metal set all diamonds, but with rose gold band with all diamonds, the items that tie the two together would be the diamonds even though differing in metal

or

-want a punch of colors in terms of gems: so white metal set all diamonds, white metal band with colored stones. The item that ties it all together is the white metal.

BUT: if there is diamonds included in the band, then any metals is fair game :naughty:

sorry if I'm rambling that's just my rule for myself :rodent: and thought I'd share with you . I've actually thought of getting a colored alternating diamond band for my set, and I'm just trying to figure out what color of gemstones I want :naughty:

But I'm excited to see what you get!. do try on some rose gold band to see how it looks on your hands, I actually like yellow gold on my skin tone more than RG.

Also Yenny- please disregard me... I think out loud  and I over analyze...about everything...lol

I'm also a rose gold fan  I think it's good to try different things and it will also be fun incorporating future rose gold pieces to your jewelry collection!

Just wanted to chime in as I actually have a pink sapphire half eternity band from Laurie Sarah set in white gold. I've attached a shot of the loose stones as well as the finished product in bright sunlight (excuse the sausage fingers) -- hopefully this gives you a good idea of what to expect if they were set in white gold. The stones look darker after being set, but they are channel pave set with no opening inside the ring to let light pass through.

After having the ring for a few months, I feel like I should have ordered the ring in yellow or rose gold... I think it's probably because the stones look dark pink and would have looked brighter against a different colored metal. Lighter pink stones against white gold still looks great to me, but in your case my vote is for rose!

I am also a rose gold fan and think the rose gold and pink sapphires would look gorgeous. Good luck!

D&T, I got your explanation...it makes sense to me, though going outside of my comfort zone (white gold) is scary. At least I feel like I'm in good company. I'm a total over-analyzer too (at least with something like this, where I can't try both rings side by side for comparison) and it makes decisions like these really hard for me. I'll have to go to town (i.e. the city of Atlanta) to see if I can find some rose gold to try on there...that may make this an easier decision for me (I hope!)

Chasiu, thanks for sharing pics of your eternity band...it is lovely....I love the yellow one too!

Mark, your opinion means a lot, as I'm sure you've seen many, many examples of pink sapphires set in many different ways.

Maybe post this in CS for their opinions, there are lots of women with excellent colour sense on that board :))

I personally would choose white gold hands down. The sapphires look purplish pink, and from all pictures BGD's rose gold is coppery pink, and to my eye the two would clash.

I vote for rose gold, especially after seeing "Tacori's" band. Looks exactly like what you are looking for, no? Normally I would say white gold, but something about the pink sapphires with the rose gold really speaks to me! I actually really love it mixed with the white diamonds, too, as in your very first pic on this thread!

Another vote for rose gold...I think it enhances the sapphires' color.

I like the rose gold and I don't think there is anything wrong with the pink melee. You are comparing a backlit photo of a large face up stone to a photo of face down melee meant to show you body color. That's why they don't look clear-- the photo isn't take with a lot of light shining directly down on them so you can see through them it's taken with the camera to the side of the stones.
