I would appreciate the honest opinions of those that have been to, or had their wedding recently.

At our venue, the room where the DJ and dancing will be is actually a small auditorium.
There is carpeting there- not like at home, it''s that thin, flat carpeting- similar to a movie theatre, etc. It''s in excellent condition (no bumps or pulls)
Not hardwood or tile for dancing.

The coordinator says most folks don''t bother renting a dance floor (we''re looking at an extra $500) but we just don''t know.

I am worried enough about people getting up and dancing and I don''t want this to hinder it, but then again, I don''t want to waste $500 either.....

Any thoughts?

Eeesh, labbie this is tough! On one hand, I wouldn''t be inclined to dance on carpet by myself- I''d need a dance floor to be there. If other people were doing it, I probably would. Is that weird? I think that it WOULD be more comfortable for people to dance on carpet, though. Will it be a little obvious that''s where the dancing is (i.e. the DJ is there and there are no tables in the close area)? Our ballroom is carpeted but the dance floor is included in the package, which is something I didn''t really think about until now! Honestly, ask some family and friends what they think, since they are going to be your guests. I think that if the dancing area is pretty obvious, it shouldn''t be a problem not having a floor used. Good Luck!

Well, I know that my FMIL was at a wedding at a local hotel recently and we saw her shortly thereafter and asked how the wedding was.
She replied that the wedding was beautiful but that people were mad at the reception because the dance floor was tiny so barely anyone could dance at a time.

I don''t think that would necessarily apply to your situation, as your entire dancefloor would be carpet so people wouldn''t have to feel like they need to crown on a small little dance floor, but just thought that you should know what had happened in that situation. I think maybe the issue there was more people wanting to all dance on the same surface????

I do think carpet would be easier on feet, although you get to slide a bit better on the wood floors, some people like that.

IMHO - save the money.
