opinions on this radiant

I know very little about a radiant, I bought one about 5 years ago, I spent many months searching local stores and looked at every thing they had or can get. I gave up looking at the lab report to see if it told me that it was a nice stone...I ended up, not concerned what the lab report said (I probably should have) and picked the one that looked like what I wanted. I set it in a custom necklace and I like it very much.

There are many here that know these stones very well, hope they can help you.

That is just a virtual stone, one they do not have in-house. So there is no information on it and you cannot choose based on numbers. WF specializes in ideal cut rounds and princess cuts and they have them cut for their inventory. Use vendors that might have some in-house like James Allen and Good Old Gold because they provide pictures and ASET images (upon request at JA). Good Old Gold is in NY and can also call in some for you to choose from if they don't have what you want currently in stock.

That picture is also just a sample image. You need to shop by images, from vendors that have stones in house.

It's a virtual stone. You can't really tell much about it like this. I really wanted a radiant initially so I put a lot of research into it.

In brief, you have to see the radiant, or at the very least, see a picture and preferably an Aset to have a shot at a good one. Otherwise it's Russian roulette and there are a lot of ugly duckling radiants out there.

To get an idea of what's out there, take a look at James Allen's site - some are pretty and some are not so pretty. It's a bit easier to pick a round without seeing it. It's much more difficult with a fancy cut like a radiant.

Sorry but one cannot pick a radiant by the numbers so I agree with the posts above.

I had a 2.10 radiant that faced up really large with a nice facet pattern and when i went to sell it the jeweler told me that if it was a cushion he could give me close to what i paid for it in 2006. So I would recommend that you also look at cushion cuts. You can always choose a cut cornered setting to put a cushion in and it will take on the shape of a radiant cut cornered stone.

Also it seems they are cutting radiants pretty deep with large tables, which is not the best look in a diamond. A cushion in the mid 60% depth and mid 50% table most likely will be a nicely cut cushion.

Here are some radiants and cushions i found on James Allen so that you can see the difference in the facet patterns. If you choose 3 stones you like best they will do ASETS on them which will help you to determine leakage. But the gemologist will be able to recommend the one that looks the best to the eye. But look at the radiants and cushions on JA for yourself...when you see the gray/mushy faceting in the stone...that means there is leakage and the light return or brilliance of the stone will be not as good as a well cut stone.

I suggest you go to www.goodoldgold.com and view their educational videos on diamonds. Cut is king and a lower colored well cut stone can look brighter/whiter than an higher color stone that is not so well cut. GOG will also source you a stone that is in your budget. Take a look at their inventory of radiants and cushions so will can develop an eye for a well cut stone.

Hope this helps:

My Favorite....this one faces up as large or larger than some of the 1c stones, but might be a little over your budget:

Thanks for this, I had a look at James Allen and requested an ASET but then realised that they do not deliver to my country (I am from Guernsey, in the Channel Islands, part of Great Britain but not mainland UK). Very disappointed as they seemed to have a few that I liked. I will try good old gold.

thanks for the advice

thanks for that.

I think that i am more looking for a rectangular radiant (1.2 to 1.3 ratio) and I am very partial to the crushed ice look!

So difficult to find websites with decent pictures. Very disappointed that JA can't deliver :((
