after much hunting through the NY diamond district and local atlanta jewlers i finally saw a real stunner today. of course NO PURCHASE can be considered without consulting my pricescope community first :) would greatly appreciate your opinions on this stone:

GIA H&A
Measurements Weight Depth Table Girdle Polish Symmetry Clarity Color Flour Price
7.59 x 7.63 x 4.69 Round 1.65 61.6 56 Medium,faceted EX EX S1 I Med Blue $9,250

the blue flourescence really offset the I color...it looked very similar to a G even in natural light. from what i''ve heard price is somewhat negotiable. it was truly breathtaking even compared to what i saw at tiffany''s! but i''m FAR from an expert so i''d love our input. thank you!

hey luvs,
would you be able to get more info, such as crown and pavillion angles?

So... who says that's H&A and why ?

The GIA lab report definitely does not give any reason to call a diamond "ideal" of H&A...

see i was wondering that too! i specifically requested H&A and the salesman said this particular stone was. it was at solomon brothers fine jewelry which has a good reputation but how can i know for sure? my mistake also....he said we could look at it under a viewer to see the H&A, then we got to talking about something else and i forgot to ask. if y'all think this may be a worthy stone i will definitely go back and check that out!

unfortunately i do not have crown and pavilion angles, just a copy of the GIA cert. i will definitely call back and ask. thank you!

that statement in itself makes it worthy of more information! make sure to listen to your eyes though(

) go with what you like and compare, compare, compare!

exactly belle! i''m trying not to get too hung up on the specs, rather just use them as a guideline. after seeing so many various stones all i''ve learned is that what *I* see is far more important that what the corresponding cert. says. that diamond really was intense and very unique compared to all the others i''ve seen...can''t quite put my finger on what, but it sure spoke to me!

keep us posted!

I'm a believer in the eyes but I also believe it's possible to find a stellar stone with both eye-pleasure and number-pleasure...so get a Sarin on that stone from this dealer and make sure the numbers match what your eyes see.

Sometimes our eyes play tricks on us when it comes to being dazzled by diamond beauty....my own experience speaking through here when we purchased offline and were 'dazzled' by the stone while looking at it in the store, even though the numbers were not top-notch....later in other various lifetime lightings and just wearing the stone daily, it showed me that the numbers were far more on the money than my eyes were and I turned out not so happy with the stone as originally...so I now look for stones that both dazzle the eyes and the math genes..

They are out there, so I figure why not look for them.

Get a Sarin, also ask for that look under the H&A viewer. I assume you've seen the H&A pages around here to know what to look for? Also, do you have an IdealScope to gauge light return? Handy.

The price on that stone is very nice and so far the numbers look good from what you have noted. I love the med blue fluor with the I color, and the SI as long as it is eye clean is a great deal. Get that Sarin and take that H&A peek and if both are satisfactory, it may be a winner!!!

From the information you provided, it looks like it could be a winner & a nice balance of size, color, clarity & cut.

Make sure you view the stone under various lighting conditions. On my scouting trips, I was able to view the stones outside - not unreasonable for a 9k expenditure.

Good luck.

y''all are absolutely wonderful! thank you so much.

fortunately the store was in a showroom that practically had windows for walls so i was able to see how it looked in sunlight. i''m also not afraid to be a pain in the ass and have a few security guards escort me to other parts of the building to view it

mara, i don''t have an idealscope but i am going to request to see it under a H&A viewer and whatever else they have available. i''ll review all the images and tutorials i''ve see thus far before i go back. also (please don''t laugh at me) what is the correct way to pronounce "sarin" as i don''t want to sound like a complete novice...lol!

LuvsPricescope, I live in Atlanta, too.

I have heard nothing but positive feedback about Solomon Brothers (my MIL''s diamond came from there, in fact). Just thought I''d let you know that Union Diamond, a PS vendor, is local. They have a showroom in Vinings. I have spoken with them and they are very nice, no pressure, etc and you can get internet pricing with the benefits of a B&M (for sizing, cleanings, etc).

Good luck!

hi bluedawg! i was so excited to find out union was in atlanta and they were the FIRST place i called when i got back from the NYDD. i spoke with someone for almost 30 minutes about exactly what i was looking for and cited some of their stones listed through a PS search. i said i would like to see a few in person. they called me back and said they would email me some selections and i never heard back from them

so i headed to cumberland jewlery exchange...WONDERFUL customer service! best out of anywhere so far. they had VERY lovely stones but no H&A. then i went to solomon brothers which i of course was very pleased with and will likely buy from. tomorrow i''m going down to the apparel mart to check out some of the jewlers there. might check oropaz as well. any other suggestions would be wonderful!

If you want to see some Lazare diamonds as well as some other beautiful stones, head to Brown & Co in Roswell on Holcomb Br Rd. The prices are high, though... not sure about negotiation room but they are no pressure and very easy to talk to. I have bought from them (not diamonds, but other stuff) and never been displeased. Customer service is awesome.

D Geller is where my e-ring and our wedding bands came from. I have been progressively more and more turned off from them in recent years and will not be buying from them again.

I''m sorry that the communication broke down with Union. Jeff Skelpsa (sp?) is the contact there (after a few emails from Tony Rixom) and I found him to be great at emailing. If you decide against Solomon Bros for any reason, I might give them another try.

My FIL was able to negotiate a good bit on diamond prices at SB, just FYI. (But he has *no* idea about picking a diamond-- I don''t think my MIL''s diamond is ideally cut).

Where are you in metro ATL? Are you as sick of the "Runaway Bride" story as I am?
