Hi everyone,

I am thinking about buying myself a diamond pendant for christmas. I want to spend less than $800 for the diamond and the necklace. I found this emerald and I thought it looked good but I figured I should ask the pricescopers before I do anything too crazy! I was thinking if I am going to do the simple pendant thing I wanted a more interesting shape than a round. I was also thinking it might be cheaper to by the actual necklace at a mall store but get the diamond from online....not sure though.

Thanks!!

We can't really tell without photos and or ASET as you probably know, how well this diamond is cut. Also SI2 clarity is not likely to be eyeclean in an EC. Have you taken a look at what the vendors with in house stones with all the info have to offer such as Whiteflash, GOG etc?

Yes. You most likely will need VS2 at least. Emerald cuts show inclusions much more easily. And I would recommend going with a vendor who can give you an ASET photo for light return. Also, try to keep Symmetry at Very Good or better.

Thanks guys! I did not realize emerald cuts showed inclusions more than other shapes. I have an SI2 round in my engagement ring and it doesn''t have visible inclusions. Maybe I should just go for a different shape! Which shapes are the best at hiding inclusions?

EC's and Asschers show inclusions more readily than round diamonds for example, due to the more open faceting. If you want an EC then raising the clarity to VS would be the way to proceed. Alternatively you could consider radiant, princess, oval, pear etc which would make an unusual pendant and you might be able to find an eyeclean one in SI clarity.

And you are most welcome!
