Hi, I just found out about this site yesterday while trying to figure out what the comments on a diamond we have on hold meant.

I plugged in the number from that GIA report, and it scored at 3.2 on HCA

1.28 G SI2 (7.01-7.03 x 4.32mm)

Table: 56%
Depth: 61.5%
Crown Angle: 34.5
PA: 41.2

So, I went on to search for something about the same size but with a better HCA score and found this on whiteflash:

http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-906712.htm

So, what do you guys think about the above? Is it that much better (practically the same price) than the one we currently have on hold? The size difference between the two is .18mm, which I''m guessing is pretty visible negligible?

I''m new to all this, and the ideal scope image shows a few of the arrows to be what look like a little off. Is that due to the angle of the picture?

We''re looking for something that''s around 1.25 cts. Would also take any suggestions for diamonds, if you have any in mind.

Thanks!

wf stone looks good.

I would go with the Whiteflash stone for sure. The A Cut Above range is the best of the best. You''ll never notice the difference in size. It looks like a really nice stone. Just get WF to check if it''s eye clean.

The WF stone is safer, I''d also recommend that one.

Definitely choose the WF ACA!!!!

The size difference is tiny.. but the difference in the cut will be highly significant. :)

ACAs are beautiful diamonds.

If you are worried by the Idealscope image, call WF and ask them to look at the diamond for you and check the symmetry by eye.... they will make sure it''s perfect.

Thanks!

Besides whiteflash, and goodoldgold, what other sites would others recommend for searching for quality diamonds? I think we''re almost set on chosing this diamond, but my gf would like to see/find a few others just for comparison.

Soo much data to take in! Is there a thread/URL I can look at to compare the different HCA results? I''d really like to understand what it different about something that scores .7, vs 1.3, 2, etc. It''s great though, since I love learning things and getting a bit more technical.

I personally stick to WF and GOG because they specialize in ideal cut diamonds. They provide the photos and other information such as idealcopes and magnified photos which make the decision process easier.

The ACA you chose is a terrific stone! And I''d rather have the SI1 any day.

Ditto the ACA - will be gorgeous!

With regard to HCA results, any score under two is good and means the diamond is worth considering. Lower isn't necessarily better - may people like diamonds that score between 1 and 2 (or thereabouts).

Please remember the HCA is an elimination tool, not a selection tool.

This means it can be used purely to weed out less well cut diamonds (as you have already done) - but you can't use it to choose between well-cut stones.

If you find more than one well-cut diamond then you can choose between them using extra information such as Idealscope and ASET images etc. - and the PSers wil, of course, be delighted to help you!
