Hey guys

I looked at 2 Stones yesterday as I am nearing a decision.
These are Si1's which were picked from about 15 Si1's to be the cleanest, and the best chance of being eye-clean with the no dark or white inclusion, only clear. My preference was to search for the best Si1's.

2.50, F, Si1, GIA Ex/Ex/Ex no fluorescence. A few smaller clear inclusions which could be seen under the loupe with difficulty. ~34K
2.52, E, Si1, GIA Ex/Ex/Ex no fluorescence. One bigger clear inclusion which could be seen under the loupe with difficulty. ~35.5k

We looked at both under the dark trying-cloth, a white-trying cloth and on her finger (both un-set).

We both could easily spot a small clear inclusion (to the naked eye) underneath the table of the (F) color one when it was on her finger. The oddest thing is that while it was under the loupe, we had a tough time seeing it. The inclusion was visible from probably a foot away when it was on her finger. Perhaps the inclusion is parallel to the table? We both confirmed it multiple times. The gemologist, however could not find it to the naked eye.

For the (E) color, the inclusion was easily seen under the dark-trying cloth under magnification. If i recall correctly, it was near the junction of the crown and the table. However, when it was on her finger, we could not find it at all to the naked eye. We tried countless times. Is this because it is on a facet?

We spent a good hour i'd say comparing both. We were very happy with them. The only part we hesitated with is the clear inclusion under the table of the (F). We like the E because of this and are most likely going to get it. I was very pleased with the attention we got and the knowledge from the gemologist. We have been there a few times. The GIA gemologist stated he wouldn't have been surprised if these were rated VS2's.

Also, i did not copy down the angles or get a copy of the certificate yet to plug into the HCA calculator. (both were right around 59/60 and 59/62...but again i did not get crown/pavillion angles) The gemologist was not aware of the HCA calculator. I left under the impression that GIA EX/EX/EX is top gun.

Again I was very happy with my impression at the store. Very professional. Are these prices reasonable? My research shows they are competitively priced for something with EX/EX/EX and no fluorescence. Would there be any room for negotiation? If so, what would be reasonable? I certainly don't want to step on anyones toes for pricing.

Any thoughts? :wavey:

Thanks again guys!!

well I plugged in your parameter, and found one that was a 2.51 ct F SI1 for around 31k (with Pricescope discount) but since you don't have the angles becuase angles are the items that means the most in terms of light performance can't tell much on performance. The one I pulled up was also XXX on the GIA report, EX everything, but doesn't fair well on the HCA at a 5.3. Some say if you have seen it, and love it, then all the scientific tools won't do anything for you, however if you are looking for top performers, then step back and do a bit more research, if you have the GIA report # then list it and we can pull up the specs for you. Also have you seen these in other lighting conditions?

I do believe price is right in line..

Ditto D&T re. numbers, how nitpicky you want to be is always your choice as the buyer - you get to decide how much you like what you see and how much you trust your eyes ::)

thanks for the responses so far.

I have seen it against the window during the daytime. Looks very sparkly to us. Unfortunately I don't have the report number in front of me but i can get it this week. The good thing is that there is a return policy if we're not satisfied, where we can get a chance to look at in a myriad of lighting conditions. Aside from near a window, where else should I view the diamond?

Also, I realize that i may be paying a premium for an Si1 that has a better chance of being eye-clean? I see what you mean about the angles. I've heard from other people that if you're happy with it, go for it, regardless of the score. I agree. We're not overly picky, just want to be happy and not look back. Now that I learned about the HCA, I'm curious as to how it scores. I'll get the numbers this week.

Thanks!
