Opinions on stone 2.61 on hold for 24 hrs

My gut reaction is that the symmetry is pretty obviously off in the photo -- and I think it's off enough so that i would be able to see the tilt in real life too.

What? They won't give you an idealscope unless you purchase it???????????????

Yeah I have to buy it first or I pay for shipping because it's not in their NY office. I always thought you get to choose three stones you want an idealscope of for free regardless of location. Guess not?

Could work with the largish lower half but how attached are you to patterning? Not sure if the bad arrow patterns is due to the cut or just the image taking.

Hi Stone Cold,
Can you really see the arrows in a 2.6 diamond? I thought that only shows up in pictures. I'm not that attached as long as the stone is brilliant.

I am in no way a diamond expert, but just curious, are you ok with the visible dark spot on towards the right/center of the stone??

Yap, if you look at the stone close up, less than a foot away will work especially if you have dark hair/complexion. Basically the black in the idealscope is modeling an average observer's head at about 1 foot away, so the black obstruction arrows in the idealscope image is the observer. You will be able to see yourself in those facets if your face is illuminated enough, and you have a good enough eye-sight. :p

Also ask if eye-clean as the previous poster brought it up.

JA's IS image is only free for those stones in NYC though. Happens several times since I started helping people find stones.

What kind of budget are you working with?

Cool, I never knew that you could see all that. James allen said that all VS2s are guaranteed to be eye clean though I won't be able to have a gemologist look at the stone unless I purchase it. I'd just hate to go through all the trouble of doing a bank wire and not like the idealscope image or find out it's not really eye clean.

My budget is 18-24k.

I'd love this BGD stone http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-detail/?product_id=AGS-104045953026
but it's out of my budget and the James Allen one is a VS2.

if i were you i'd work with "inhouse stones" instead of going on a wild goose chase.

Ditto SC - if you're attached to patterning or the idea of H&A, probably best to continue looking

That said if you just want a pretty stone that sparkles well this may be a good one, at a good pricepoint. I will disagree w/ DF and say that in-house stones carry unnecessary premiums for anyone A) willing to search & wait for the right diamond and B) not set on having a H&A stone

What are you looking for? You gave us a price range, but didn't specify size, color, and clarity requirements. There are some talented diamond hunters here that may be able to find something in your price range that you'll like better and be able to get more informaiton on before being forced to pull the trigger.

I'm looking for something that's 2.5+, H or I, SI1 or better, excellent cut, VG or better symmetry and polish, good idealscope.

I decided to purchase the stone so I'll be able to have idealscope images soon. Fingers crossed that the results will be good so I'll actually get to keep the stone. :) The price for it was less than similar I SI1 stones.

Best of luck. :)

Here's the idealscope image. What do you think? It doesn't seem like a perfect idealscope but maybe good enough? It's below 20k which is the price of a 2.6 I SI1.

Yap, obstruction issue is not significant. You still have the 30days to test drive it. :P

Wow that was fast. Thanks Stone Cold.

James Allen said "this is a phenomenal Idealscope image. It has red from edge to edge indicating nice brilliance and just enough white around the crown to give it contrast(fiery bursts). The only part of this Idealscope image that is very good as opposed to ideal is the symmetry and proportion. This is the least of your worries as neither have a negative impact or will translate when examined in person."

I'd be happy to be done with the diamond hunting.... now on to the setting lol :)

Good luck. :)
