Hi there,
I am looking for a setting for a rb 1.5 stone. I am a bit boring and would like the standard tiffany style setting with a THIN band that tapers towards the top (where it meets the stone). I am also looking for platinum. I dont like the severity of the knife edge all the way around (and I find it uncomfortable), but dont mind a softened knife edge part of the way up the band towards the stone. I like all the impact to be on the stone being the main feature. I want to avoid chunky bands as they just dont suit me.
So far, I found the following options:
http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/contemporary-tiffany-style-solitaire-engagement-ring-1415.htm
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/ring-details/?product_id=5540
http://jrcastings.com/index.php/products/solitaires/round-stone/sr-102.html
I have never seen a style like the jr casting one? As the base of the diamond is so exposed, does this mean that the setting itself would be higher. I would like to acoid an unnecessarily high setting if possible. I like the look of the exposed stone and how thin it gets towards the stone. Has anyone used JR castings?
However, i am pretty sure this is a cast, not handmade.
The Brian Gavin setting is confirmed as handmade but I am not sure about the WhiteFlash stone? I need to check that one.
is handmade quality superior to casts?
Any other opinions on potential settings? What are your thoughts?
In terms of etiquette, it is ok to purchase a setting from one supplier to have it sent to another supplier (where you purchased the stone from) to get it mounted? I would have thought that a supplier would not like to sell just a setting but would want to sell an accompanying stone as well!
Cheers! Nelly
