Hi Everyone...

I have slowly begun my search for diamonds online. This is a BIG stretch for me and I am truly a novice. We are not going to purchase a diamond for at least several more months, but I felt we should begin researching.

Of course I have heard so many wonderful things about GOG. I came across a stone that looks lovely to me. I am not at all familiar with this type of cushion. I may or may not have seen/tried one on IRL given most sales people simply tell me its a "cushion cut" without elaborating as to what type of cushion it is.

Can someone please give me a little info on this type of cushion? I would greatly appreciate any help!!

Thank you.

I'm far from being one of the cushion experts on the forum, but the AVC diamonds from GOG are a new line of diamond cuts from GOG, which combine the chunky facets of antique cushions with optimized light performance. I've seen one in person and think they are absolutely incredible - there's a thread with pictures if you search "AVC" on here, I believe (or search my user topics).

I like the size, color and price on the one you linked, but there are two really big inclusions right on the table that I would be concerned about.

my understanding was that you were looking for a more modern cushion, but you linked a 'chunky cushion'...the AVCs are gorgeous if that is the look you are going for.

Thanks so much for pointing that out!! I completely overlooked those inclusions! Yeah, that is not acceptable for me. So this stone is definitely a no go!

Slg:

I definitely am into modern stones, however this particular cut didn't seem too antique looking (even though there is vintage in the name) :errrr:

Are all chunky, large faceted cushions considered to have the vintage type look to them?

the AVC is definitely not a modern cushion...but the label doesn't matter-what matters is that it is pleasing to your eye
here is a video comparing 'chunky' and 'modern' faceted cushions-also if you search the word 'cushion' in these videos there are many more!

These have varying sizes of culets (see for yourself). Personally I think the larger culets match this style and they're my favorite (i.e. not the one you posted).

This is the pattern I like best (rectangular, not square, large rectangular cutlet):

Also, as AVC's go, the ASET and DiamXray in OP's stone are not great. The white is leakage and the green is low-angle light reflection (e.g., like a sunset angle). For $20k, you can do better.

Also, with SI2 clarity -- you really have to look to make sure that it's eyeclean.
