Hi everyone, am new here and am currently purchasing an engagement diamond.

I was offered the following diamond, which I have seen in person. I've just received a copy of the certificate and it says the following:

Shape - cut-cornered square modified brilliant
Measurements - 5.44 x 5.28 x 4.15 mm
weight - 1.00 carat

Proportions
Depth - 78.6%
Table - 77%
Girdle - medium to slightly thick

Finish
Polish - excellent
Symmetry - good

Clarity - VS1
Color - D
Fluorescence - none

I was going to purchase this stone and was given what I believe was a good price. However I am now concerned by the hgh table and depth percentages, should I be?

While I have seen the stone in person, I am very new to this and am not a good assessor of "sparkle"!

Thanks

Knowing the price of the stone would be useful in deciding whether it is worth buying or not. The table and depth are on the larger side and you are losing a bit of spread with a depth like that. Who is the certificate by?
For a better understanding of what a good or excellent cut princess cut diamond should look like ask for comparison diamonds in the good and excellent cut range. AGS 0 is an excellent cut grade and and as the number gets higher the light performance decreases. Doing this should help you in your decision process.

can you go to a Jareds and see some AGS0 princess cuts in person? that may help you decide. Also you are pretty high in color and clarity, it may be worth looking at some other colors in person to see how important color is to you

Hi, I'm UK based. Price I was quoted was £4,200, that includes a platinum ring plus ring design etc.

Stone is a GIA cert. AGS graded stones aren't common here, so it's not really as simple as going for an AGS 0 or 1 etc.

Either buy an ASET scope and learn how to use it to understand the light return or use an independent appraiser who knows about princess cut to assess the cut. No way to tell anything based on GIA report.
