The more comments, hopefully the more I will learn. This is really a learning experience and learning curve. Items to the layman that look fine are not as they appear.
Thank you so much for help. Hopefully one day, I will be able to give back to the forum.

1st 3 links are error.

Links for diamonds 1 & 2 (3 is the same stock # as 1)

On all of these, first ask if they are eye-clean to your standards. If not, then you don't need to worry about further evaluation.

#1--Borderline steep/deep, would need IS.

#2--Shallow pavillion, very likely could have obstruction issues. Need the photo and IS to know more.

#4--Angles are good. Once again, IS would be helpful. Besides eye clean, ask if the cloud is impacting brilliance in any way. Also have you seen an I color in this size in person? A diamond this large will show more color and warmth than a smaller stone. Someone who cannot detect color in a 1-2ct I color may be able to see it in a 5ct.

#1 pavilion too steep, doubtfully eye-clean

#2 pavilion slightly shallow, but could work... again, possibly not eye-clean

#3 same as #1

#4 need an IS to tell more, but it''s got a big cloud in the table that''s most likely eye-visible

Your links still show up as errors.

#1 is same as #4 above

You are running into a couple of issues looking at diamonds this size. First off, they are relatively rare. Second, because rough that is able to be cut this size is rare, cutters try to get the most weight retention they can--1/10th carat is worth hundreds of dollars. Maybe they could have cut a 4.XX ct ideal stone from the same rough, but a 5.XX ct diamond that is of average proportions is still worth thousands of dollars more because of the weight. What do you think they are going to do?

I still say that your best bet is to find a good vendor you would like to work with, let them know what you are looking for and see what they can find. You will have much better results, but will have to have patience.

Wow.........doesn''t anyone sell anything of this size for decent money (at least it''s decent to me). In fact, it''s a lot of money to me.

Heh, this is actually a lot of money for the vast majority of people.

In spite of what celebrities would have us believe, 5 carats is indeed a large and rare size. I agree with the gals that for a stone this special working directly with a trusted jeweler is the way to go instead of you trying to hunt and peck.
