Hello! I am a first time poster, but have been lurking on the boards for quite awhile now.
I looked at a diamond that I thought was really really beautiful but wanted opinions from people who probably know a lot more than I do at this point.
Here are the specs:
2.89 carat Square Emerald, I color, SI1 clarity, 65% depth, 70% table, polish and symmetry good, no fluorescence, 8.86x 7.60x5. The price was $23K. I am wondering if the stats look good on this diamond and if the price is about right.
In person, I could not see any yellow in the diamond even when I put it right next to an E colored diamond. Usually, I can see
color, so I think this is a good sign. As for clarity, I could not see any inclusions either with my eyes.

Not Storm, but I do know a little about ECs.

It takes more than colour and clarity for the diamond to look beautiful. It''s good that you aren''t colour and clarity sensitive from what you have seen and written.

However, a table of 70% is rather large and might make the EC look rather glassy. I very much prefer the table to be a wee bit smaller or about the same depth as the depth (around 60% to 65%) to lessen the table glare. Also a smaller table sometimes means that the crown height is higher, but not always true. And a good crown height of 10% and upwards is essential to getting coloured light return (fire) and a livelier diamond.

Plus, the pattern in step cuts is very important so I''d be concerned about the Good symmetry. It sounds like this stone has a GIA cert? A magnified picture will help greatly, or an Idealscope picture, or an ASET or all 3.

Thank you for your response! I am going to try and get a picture, but in the meantime, what do you think of the price also? Is that about right for the size, color, and clarity?

I just had one comment on the dimensions you gave:
You say it's a Square Emerald Cut, so does this mean you're interested in an Asscher? If so, the measurements of 8.86x7.60 give a ratio (1.17 I belive) that would be undesirable for an Asscher.

Hello again!
I found another diamond, which has the stats:
2 carats, G VS1 59% depth, 66% table, polish very good, symmetry good, 7.63x7.23x4.29

What do you guys think????

This is a squarish EC. Any pictures?
I''m not so hot about the Good symmetry.
What is the girdle like?
What lab is the certification from?
Crown height?

they wont let me take any pictures, but i saw it under the loupe (sp?) and the windmills are beautiful.

girdle slightly thick
GIA report
i dont think it tells me the crown height...

also, what do you think about paying a premium to get this from a "special" 5th avenue say store?
