I am a 60 year old grandmother married to my third husband for 5 years, he is my best friend. I am having my 2.09 round brilliant diamond reset. Attached are photos of the ring I am looking at with a clear sapphire and my current setting. I apologize for the image quality. My diamond is a G color, a beautiful stone but I have never been in love with the setting, it's very high. but now I'm wondering if the double halo I am looking at might be a bit too much. I put a deposit on the setting but have not had the stone set yet. I realize I am probably not the average poster but I really need some unbiased opinions. Thank you!

If you love it, and can rock it, why not?

What you are asking is a matter of personal taste. We can only tell you what we'd like... only you know what you like.

If you've seen it and loved it... go for it.

I like it a lot, and it looks well done and beautiful on you. If YOU love it, then I would go for it! Are you familiar with the nature of pave? If you are hoping for a no fuss type ring then this may not be it. Pave takes some babying and it's not uncommon to lose a stone or two over time. If thats OK with you, then I say for it too!

I will tell you that the most beautiful halo rings I have seen are done by Victor Canera. I do personally prefer a single halo, but as Gypsy said, that is personal preference. He can make that shape halo if that is what you want.

Dual shank halo: http://www.victorcanera.com/jewelry/engagement-rings/dual-shank-halo-solitaire.html

Split shank: http://www.victorcanera.com/jewelry/engagement-rings/the-donna-split-shank-with-cushion-cut-diamond.html

Double halo: http://www.victorcanera.com/jewelry/engagement-rings/the-anne-marie-cushion-dual-halo-split-shank.html

And there are many posted on this site if you'd like to see some handshots.

I am very glad that you have such a happy marriage, and resetting your diamond is a great idea!

That rock is awesome. Are you going for maximum finger coverage or want to 'display' the centre stone? The double halo is a lot though as someone else said a 2 ct should be able to stand on its own with that setting. Not to confuse the issue but I love your current setting too! Yg and channel set, yes please! I'm going to be getting something very similar soon from my bf....but back to you: what's your everyday style? Are you a bling- ier type of lady? Then go for the double halo. Congrats and good luck!

Three Times: I have an admission to make. I stopped reading after your first sentence because I thought that was one of the sweetest intros I've read on PS in a long time!!!

Since you love the ring (it obviously spoke to you when you first saw it) and it's a celebration of the love that you and your husband share, for pete's sake you've got to get it! And if you're wondering what "others" might say (eg, your children or step-children or whomever) it really doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is how you feel when you look down at your gorgeous new ring and then look over at your "best friend" ... your heart will be smiling & there's nothing better than that!

Oh, and once you have your diamond in the new setting, PLEASE come back and post pictures so we can all celebrate with you okay???

welcome!
You want to get some flashy bling, i think youre exactly like the average poster ;)

If YOU love it than you should get it. If you are looking for people to suggest other options, we certainly can find you lovely ones.

but if you just need an enabler to tell you its ok to get a flashy ring, then you got one!!

You should get whatever you are comfortable with. If you are comfortable wearing it around your family and friends, even if they MAY think its too flashy, then do it. If you will be uncomfortable with the idea people might be thinking something behind your back, good or bad, then i would maybe take it down to a one halo or something.

Buy what you love and you will be comfortable wearing. If you love it but will be self conscious, maybe we can look for other options.

Thank you all so much for your input. I little more info on the ring, it is custom made and although it resembles a few designer rings out there it is one of a kind. It is 18k white gold with 1.29 carats of diamonds, I believe there are 64 stones, G color like my own stone. I love the split shank as I have wide knuckles and the ring would stay in place better than my current ring which has small beads inside the shank to hold it in place as it is a little top heavy. Also, the jeweler is going to set a blue sapphire in my current ring at no charge so I can wear it on my right hand if I want to. My ring size is 6 3/4 so I should be able to carry the size, I guess I am just concerned it may be overkill. I think I will stop in this week and try it on again and try on some others styles to be sure. To be honest, when I tried it on I really didn't look at other styles. I do have the advantage of age to get away with it as we'll. :)) I'm really glad I found this site, it is an investment and I like to get views from others like yourselves.

We definitely enjoy seeing beautiful diamonds and settings! Come back and post pictures if you get it!

I think it's pretty, and if you love it then I say go for it! Come back with pics!

I love all the bling! I think it will look fantastic on you. Post pics after you have it set! :appl:

The most important thing is to get what YOU really want. There are so many styles out there, choose the one that sings to YOU.
Personally, I think you've made a very interesting and stimulating choice, particularly in view of what you've mentioned is your demographic.
I find it quite a young, fashion-forward style. I absolutely adore the split shank.
:)
Please don't change it for fear of others' opinions.... we all feel self conscious about our new jewellery as we are wearing it 'out of the box'.
But in a couple of weeks it will all be normalised, and you will be far happier if you go with the style you REALLY wanted.

If you love it, don't hesitate or second guess! I think it's beautiful, but much more importantly, so do you!

I think it's beautiful! Are you planning on wearing it a long side of a wedding band? If so, it might be a little too thick for your finger unless of course the wedding band is very thin. If you have seen it and tried it on and love it, I say go for it!

I think it's a statement piece, Carol. I say "go for it!" Do you wear a lot of other jewelry too? With something this blingy I like just the one piece, and maybe subtle earrings, bracelet, necklace, watch, but again, that's just ME!

My wedding band has 5 stones for a total 1.0 carat so I probably would not wear them together, it would be too much , IMO. I did check out another jeweler today but everything he showed me was 14k, and 1/2 the carat weight of this ring, also not one of a kind settings. I am going back tomorrow to this jeweler to see the ring again and try on some other rings to be sure. I also want to discuss how my stone will be set, what you are seeing in this photo is a loose white sapphire just laying in the prongs to get an idea what it will look like with my diamond. I assume once the stone is set it will be slightly higher and "pop" from the setting. I don't want it to get lost in the double halo, that's part of my dilemma.
