Hi - I'm not one of the resident experts here but I can tell you that they will ask you for the ASET, Idealscope, GIA/AGS certificate (or link), HCA score, and any other information you have. If you can link to the diamond's stats, that's probably the easiest way to give that information.

As far as color, it's such a subjective thing. I am "color sensitive" and so an H in a 2 ct. stone would probably not be white enough for me. But it might be for you. If you haven't looked in person at various color grades in ideal-cut stones and in larger sizes, that would be a really good thing to do.

It links me to the stone. 35.2 crown and 40.8 pavillion angle, 61.4 depth, 56.8 table - looks good. No way to tell from the plot whether or not the stone is eyeclean though.

Can't seem to find the crown and pavilion numbers, but the AGS report no. is 01040410890001

I was under the impression that VS2 would almost certainly be eye-clean.

Thanks for the link. I put its numbers into the HCA and it scores 1.9, with Very Good in all categories.

Since it's from BN and they have a really good return policy, you can order it and see if the H color works for you. If not, you can return it.

I'm trying to keep it at that price or lower. Do you think it would be better to go up in color (say a G) but down in clarity (SI1)?

I think it really depends on how "color sensitive" you are. Is there any way you can look at ideal-cut stones somewhere near you? If you can see a selection in a variety of colors (including those you're considering), I think it would help you to know what color(s) you like. I'd try to see them in sizes close to what you're considering buying because it is easier to see color in a diamond when it's larger.

I haven't had an H color stone so I can't tell you the difference between H and G. But I had a 2.90 G SI1 and it was white appearing to me (and I couldn't see the inclusions with my eyes but could find them with my 10X loupe). Many people feel that G is a "sweet spot" for color because it's at the top of the near colorless category and less expensive than an F color.

The problem with buying an SI1 stone from a place like Blue Nile is that unless it's a BN Signature stone, they don't have it in-house so they can't tell you very much about the inclusions or help to ascertain if it's eye clean. But again, with BN's return policy, you could always order and return if you're not happy.

Looks promising from the numbers.

clarity - it *is* or it *isn't* eyeclean to your requirements. And you can go however low in clarity *for that stone* that it takes to be eyeclean to your requirements. If clarity is a mind-clean thing for you though, that's a different matter...

colour - well, there's little difference between a G and an H. And little difference between an F and a G, and little between an E and an F, and a whole lot of difference between an E and an H. Looking at stones in person is really the only way to determine your tastes.

It's a lot of money to float for a month. You could try to time it so that you order it on the first day of your credit card statement period and return it [if you return it] within 7 days of the end of your CC period -- to avoid the float.

Sorry to threadjack, but blueiris, you HAD a 2.90 G SI-1? It WAS white?? What happened to it????

When I first started looking for a round diamond to replace my emerald cut, I originally wanted approximately 2.50 ct. and E/F color & VS clarity. BGD didn't have anything that fit at that time and Brian didn't think they would be getting anything like that in the near future. But they did have a 2.90 G SI1, so I went with that. Just a month or two after getting my ring, BGD got a diamond that fit my original criteria so I decided to exchange it. My new diamond is an 2.50, E, VS1. I should post some updated photos, though I'm not sure it would really show in photos since it's the same setting (Grace from BGD).

Yes.

To save money H Si is a good level. There is a very large price change between G and H, and another large between VS2 and Si1.

Again, I'm REALLY sorry for the threadjack, but maybe this will help the OP. What didn't you like about the G SI-1? Was it a color thing, a clarity thing, or was it just too big? (ha-ha!) ;))

Yes, you must post pictures and tell us about your decision! I'm sure it will help a lot of people trying to decide the same thing. :praise:

Maybe once I receive my new sapphire/diamond band from I D Jewelry, I can take some photos of my new diamond the same setting. :) I actually did like the G SI-1 very much but honestly, if they'd had what I originally was looking for at the time I was first buying, I would have opted for that. They didn't think they would be getting anything in higher color/clarity in the size I wanted for quite a while, so I went with the G SI-1 instead. But I do prefer higher color and higher clarity stones, and my husband does, too, so when they got the size, color, and clarity I really wanted in the first place, I had to see it! And once I saw it, I knew I wanted to change.
