Opinion on this .90 stone?

Hey guys, started the grueling search for a stone a few days ago and came across this one

https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=6301655700

What are some opinions on this? It looks like the crown angle is slightly off but will that have much of a negative effect?

The setting will be 18k yellow gold with small diamonds on the side. Trying to keep the price under $4k, currently it's listed at around $3400.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

do you have pictures or videos? What are your preferred specs in terms of color/clarity/size?

Hey thanks for the quick replies!

I requested an idealscope image from JamesAllen and FourMine, hopefully they reply quickly.
For color and clarity I only care that it's not noticably yellow and it's eye clean, while maximizing cut and size.

I'm looking at this setting (or one similar).

For reference here's a JamesAllen link to the stone

Thanks for the help!

Edit: To be honest I would prefer a simple solitaire setting, but in the past she's mentioned that she likes a few side stones on the ring! I dislike how much they distract from the main diamond.

Okay so JA said they will request the images from the supplier and it can take 3-5 business days. They only allow 1 request for up to 3 diamonds. Does anyone have any others they would like to see? Or I'll search tonight for a couple others.

I’d wait for the IS/ASETs to come back. The video looks ok and I think it would be eye clean.

A CA of 36 on a GIA report could be anywhere from 35.76 to 36.25 for an 8 CA average, which is a lot higher than we’d usually recommend. If some of the lower halves are under 40.6 with some above (so some at 40.5 with some at 40.7), to me that’s a sign of the cutter trying to maximise weight rather than ensuring tight tolerances.

Here's an alternative. This is a bad photo showing a GIA H with more color than is realistic. It would not be that color in reality. JA will require you spend double on any upgrade in the future.

This gets you a super-ideal with slightly less face-up size, but with a 100% value toward upgrade to any other WF ACA.

Sorry I should've mentioned that I wouldn't buy it from JA as it's almost $900 cheaper on FourMine or Parcel & Stone. I don't plan upgrading, I'd rather just get another piece in the future!

Really trying to keep it under $3500, definitely under $4000. How do people here feel about lab diamonds?

Thanks for the other JA link. I'll look a little on white flash and checkout what they have

With regard to lab grown, given De Beers’ entry into the sub-1ct lab grown market with Lightbox, I suspect you’ll see prices fall more. Granted, lightbox stones do not come with grading reports, so there might still be some sort of “premium” for stones that come with grading reports (AFAIK, IGI grade lab grown stones though I swear I remember reading that GIA may have started doing the same recently).

Mined stones are still likely to retain value relative to lab grown, but it really is up to each individual purchaser to make that decision about whether they go down that route or otherwise (just as it is for branded jewellery by the big fashion/jewellery houses or to buy online from a vendor like WF, BGD, Victor Canera, etc).

If you're interested in lab diamonds, Lightbox has a 1ctw halo pendant that is supposed to have a .88ct center stone, but it hasn't become available yet. I would recommend that you do some research about Lightbox and see if it's what you want, and if it is, wait a month or so and see if they do make that one available. I have a half carat from Lightbox and it's very white and sparkly and nicely cut. It will be $900 for the halo pendant when they make it available.

Both JA and FourMine replied back and said there are no IdealScope images available. In addition, FourMine said it is eye clean and not milky. Should I take the risk?

I personally would.

FWIW, my e-ring diamond has nearly these exact specs (only difference is my depth is 61.9) and I am beyond thrilled with it's performance. Granted, due to GIA's rounding, etc., there are no guarantees these two diamonds will perform the same, but IMO this diamond is definitely worth considering. GL!

Okay so after evaluating some finances I really need to get it under $3500 for the stone and setting. I think around a .75 carat with an excellent cut, G or H and maybe SI1? Any suggestions?

Can we put most of the budget into the stone, or do you need a halo setting/something intricate? Or is a plain solitaire ok? Just want to check before I suggest stuff.

EDIT: you said this above: https://www.fourmine.com/shop/engag...s-diamond-engagement-ring?metal=153&shape=167

is that still what you want?

Sorry I should've went into more detail, here's what I'm thinking now,

Total budget with wedding band, setting, and a diamond is $4000.
She really likes settings with paved stones on the sides, but I think a solitaire setting with a paved band is what I'll go with...
So let's say $1500 for the band and setting, and $2500 for the diamond. I can go a little over, so $2500-3000 would work.

Thank you for your time!

It looks like the setting you pointed out is yellow gold, is that right?

If so, you have a little flexibility with color. You probably have a little flexibility even with white gold or platinum. Would you be willing to go down to an H, I, or even J in color? (It depends on how color sensitive you and your SO are. Before jumping into the PriceScope world for my e-ring, I was told that I-J was an "average" color for an "average" buyer.)

I am also not sure how married you are to an MRB. Fancy shapes like pears, ovals, and cushions are generally cheaper than rounds, but they are admittedly more difficult to buy online, as you really have to see them, not just go "by the numbers."

Not trying to totally derail your search, but just throwing some options out there if budget is important!

So $1500 for a plain solitaire setting for the e-ring and a pave wedding band with $2500 for a stone? Is that right?

Pave wedding bands seem to be going for around $500 at Four Mine so that leaves $1k for a solitaire which is a bit overkill. You can get plain solitaire e-rings for around $500 (with some design features) so you could theoretically up your diamond budget to $3k

Hmm, ok, me likes a challenge.

Can I suggest you put your $3500 into the engagement ring (diamond and setting). Let her choose her wedding band. What she and you think she likes now may change. Let her wear her ering for a while. Many many people change their wedding band desire after they wear an ering. Unless necessitated in your culture, it is not typical for the man to select her wedding band. That's really up to her in most cultures.

For a plain solitaire - How about this one? Its simple and pretty. https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...e-flower-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-50125

Same price but with Pave. https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...e-gold-petite-pave-engagement-ring-item-56255

You can see if this is eye-clean enough for you. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...rat-f-color-si1-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-3824016

Good all around if the cloud is cleared by the JA gemologist. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2784789

You guys are fast! I was planning on 18k yellow but I'll drop to 14k yellow to spend a little more on the diamond.

Yeah we can definitely drop down a little on the color scale, probably I on the low end. I do really like round cut.

I don't know why I was thinking I'd need to get the band at the same time. $3500 would work! All I care is that it's eye clean, isn't noticably yellow (which it shouldn't in yellow gold right?), And has a great cut, while maximizing carat weight. Thanks everyone I'm hoping to order soon! I'll look over what's been posted when I get home from work!

She really likes settings with paved stones on the sides, but I think a solitaire setting with a paved band is what I'll go with...

Just a comment here as a fellow lady working on an e-ring. Have you checked with your SO to make sure she is okay with a basic solitaire with no side stones? I know price is a concern and YOU prefer the look of a solitaire, but if I had told my fiance that I wanted side stones, and he came back with a solitaire, I might be a little miffed. Worth checking in :)

If she has said she wants some side stones, a solitaire with some pave on either side might still be doable within your budget.

Yeah probably should as she's the one that has to wear it... I suppose the budget could be about $3800, with about $3000 on the stone still. I have a hard time sticking to a single number! Only bad part is the stone should be a G or H color then right? Apologies if it seems like I'm too indecisive, I value everyone's time here and appreciate the help.

Something like that pave setting should work then, but I might avoid JA since two of those stones listed elsewhere for $500 cheaper!

These seem to fit the bill, does enchanted usually have ASET images?
Edit:
So I think the last one is the best option out of the three from enchanted? It scores a 1.3 on the HCA, and is 2 clarity grades above the others..

What are the chances of finding a .85 ct around that price?

No ASET available for the previous one at adiamor. Waiting on enchanted for a response on the .76 above..

Edit: Enchanted said they can take one before shipping
