I am asking the opinion of all of you on here as there are so many of you who either are diamond/stone/design nuts and professionals and then others who just plain love jewelry..........so my question is: I recently disposed of my original engagement ring and I am starting over completely. I always wanted a cushion cut antique or antique looking ring a la leon mege. However, I am having trouble finding a stone that I feel is worth the money and has all the right qualifications. Cushions are a tough bunch in my opinion. Anyway--so I am seriously consiering a sapphire cushion with diamond side stones. I have found a couple gorgeous natural sapphires in that perfect square cushion shape that are amazing. What do you all think? Will I regret not getting a diamond? It might be nice to do something different. While the unheated and certified sapphires aren''t inexpensive there is certainly a cost savings...........

I am really torn and would just welcome some thoughts from those of you (reena et al)who I know share the same taste in design--leon mege, daniel k , etc.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts

oh, windowshopper, i'm not going to tell you that you shouldn't get a diamond, but i do LOVE cushion cut sapphires. look at these two rings--hard to imagine anything more gorgeous than that. (i'm not positive that they're both sapphires, but whatever. you get the idea.) i've decided that the ring on the bottom is one of my top ten favorite rings, ever. i just love the marquise stones on the sides. /idealbb/images/smilies/love.gif

Those are gorgeous..........actually after getting some feedback I was going to solicit some pix or design ideas! So thanks. Do you know who designed those rings?

hey . . . no, i don't know who designed those unforunately. they're from a recent show me the ring thread titled "wish list". you might want to check it out--there's lots of yummy sapphire and diamond pics.
