Hey Everyone,

So I decided to give a private jeweler a chance and I was pleasantly surprised. I went to a jeweler in LA that carried hearts on fire diamonds and got quoted on this diamond. All the diamonds there looks just as good and probably better than the ones I saw at Tiffany's. Hopefully, I can convince my girlfriend that brand name isn't everything.

Here's the diamond...this is not a hearts on fire diamond as the lady in the shop pointed out to me. I did get to see the diamond in person and it looked awesome

This is what I got out of the GIA Report

.65 Round Diamond
VVS1
Color: G

Depth: 60.6%
Table: 57%
Girdle: Med, Faceted
Finish
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent

Asking price: $2900.00

I know I could easily get a bigger ring at a VS1 H color easily and it would look the same. This was an example diamond she showed me though.

Also, could anyone recommend a high quality classic solitare setting brand for me? They had some hearts on fire settings that were to my liking.

Oh yeah, one more question. Can anyone recommend some nice jewelry stores in either Los Angeles, Ca or the Phoenix, Az area. I won't buy on-line because I'd like to see the rings and stones fitted and the diamond in person.

Thanks for showing me the right direction

The price is in line with the asking price for similar H&A diamonds, but...... There is no way to honestly compare the diamond you posted to the H&A's available on Price Scope. You would need to get crown and pavillion angle info, Ideal Scope, H&A patterns, etc., for a more in depth comparison. If the Cut Class of the diamond you posted is actually a 1B/2A/2B, you could be paying a bit of a premium (in the neighborhood of $250-$700, or so) for the HOF name.

I would compare against some of the top ranked net vendors. You can get an eye clean H/si-1 quality stone ranging anywhere from .75-.80 cts. for a little under 3 grand with a top cut quality to boot...

Don't let si-1 stones scare you...

My two cents to help you with your options is compromise on g/h and stay vs2/si-1...

Good luck in searching...

It sounds like a beautiful diamond at an excellent price.

I know you mentioned it, but I wanted to also say that with the VVS , you are paying for additional quality that you will not see with your naked eye.

It is very nice to be able to compare it with the branded diamonds you mentioned.

If it held up with the branded diamonds visually, I would say go for it.

Hello again,

I decided to just go with an on-line vendor for the diamond and the setting. Superbcert will allow me to see and evaulate the ring and diamond for a few days before I decide to keep it and the return policy seems solid. Plus, like you guys noted, they'll give me the megascope report with all the specs so I can run it through the HCA advisor. I know I'd pay more, but I am still more comfortable getting a H&A dimaond of VS quality. My GF is an artist and very keen to detail. I'm certain that she would be able to see inclusions on a S1 diamond even if it was eye clean. Plus, she is going to start working for an appaiser of jewelery and antiques and I sure she going to get pretty good at spotting inclusions and poorly cut diamonds. From what I looked at, I could get a .85-.70 diamond with a simple platinum solitare setting for around my $4500 budget. That's a pretty big chunk of rock for someone with a 5 1/4 ring size and for my age group (I'm only 22)

I think that sounds like a great decision. VS quality is a good middle ground. You don't pay the extra premium of VVS, but it should be very clean still. (I have a VVS and a VS, and can't tell the difference at all.) People tend to be very happy with their Superbcerts, so that too should be a great choice! Have you selected a stone yet?

Not yet, but I'm more in the process of researching and price checking. I'm going to get the ring in August. It wouldn't make sense right now proposing to her while we are still having a long distance relationship (I'm in Los Angeles, CA she's in Tempe, Az). We are both in school right now, but I'll graduate in August and will move out to Arizona the first week of August. I'm planning to propose after I get back from training from my work. We've been together for over 3 years now and she already knows it's coming (She knows me really well

). She's just not sure when.

Could I get the diamond now? Yes, I can...but I'd rather wait to purchase everything until I've moved to Arizona.

That's a smart way to go. The last thing you want to do is lose a diamond ring in the frenzy of moving!

True...but diamond prices are moving up. A few months shouldn't be enough of a difference to panic buy, but if you are looking, and find one that looks "just right', I would go for it if you are not worried about whether or not you will really be buying this year.
