Hi all,
I am new to Price Scope and I have been reading some forums for the past 2 days and I feel like people here are quite knowledgeble. I and my husband have been looking for a diamond for a soltaire pendant and decided on a $5000 budget. We went to some local stores that are not quite brick & mortar(We have been referred by some friends who bought their engagement rings/wedding bands etc.) but did not find the experience pleasant. We felt like we were being sold diamonds that did not meet our requirements. So after doing extensive reasearch on the internet, I looked at Blue Nile and Union Diamond.
We decided to buy a diamond that is G color, VS2/SI1 clarity, close to a carat, Ideal Cut, Ex/Ex- Polish/Symmetry, and faint or no flourescence with a GIa or a AGS certificate.

I liked 2 diamonds on Blue Nile that met my requirements but are over our budget. Here are the links:

and

Personally I like the second one because the inclusions are minor for a SI1 and it is cheaper that the first one.
The first one has a thick girdle and has some flourescence but it is VS2 clarity and more expensive.

Is it important to get a diamond with VS clarity?

Please offer your opinion on these 2 diamonds. These 2 are on hold for me.

P.S I have also looked at SuperbCert, WhiteFlash, GoodOldGold, DirtCheapDiamonds,EngagementRingsDirect but none that meet my budget/criteria.

While what you want is possible to find, it was much easier 2 or 3 years ago. Prices have gone up; suggest you to look for stones in the .9 ct range, or go to H color.

Of those two, I'd go with the AGS stone.

Are you picking the second stone for its clarity? or do you see something that you do not like in the first one?

Hi pink,

Neither of these are facing up as large as a 1 ct. should, due to depth and girdle. If I''m paying the 1 ct. mark premium, I would like to see it visually.

I agree with Julie, and would look just below, or go to an H or lower. Do you know if you''re really color sensitive? If so, I understand wanting a G. If not, in an expertly cut stone, you can go all the way to J, which would allow you to go bigger in size.

Thanks for the explaination.
So what is the ideal depth and girdle measurements for a 1 carat diamond to look like as big as a 1 carat diamond?

A 1 ct. should measure 6.5mm, or very close to. Once a girdle gets past slightly thick, it will start to hide some visual spread. Depth will also play a part. Try to keep it between 60-62.

And you''re welcome!
