I would like opinions regarding a stone that I am considering purchasing from Blue Nile. It is GIA, .84 carat, F color, SI1 clarity, excellent cut, polish, & symmetry. Fluorescence none. Measures 6.06 - 6.11 x 3.73. Table is 56% and depth is 61.3%. Crown angle is 34.5 and pav. angle is 40.8, Culet is none. Girdle is thin to med faceted (3.0%). I have not seen the stone, but since it''s SI1, would expect NOT to be able to see imperfections with naked eye. Am I safe in assuming that? The diagram shows a cloud, and a crystal very close together and the crystal is what scares me. The cost is $2900. Any help is appreciated!

The numbers look good. Some SI1 stones are eye-clean, some are not. The only way to tell is to have someone look at the diamond for you. Since BN is not a drop shipper, they will not be able to tell you whether it is eye-clean. On the plus side, BN does have a good return policy, so you would be able to send it back if not eye-clean.

And welcome to pricescope, todd

Looks good from the numbers but you can''t assume SI1 to be eye-clean always. Check with the vendor.

Hey Todd (nice name). I too ordered from Blue Nile and I had about the same budget. The reason I didn't go with the SI1 is because since BN doesn't offer images it's really a crap shoot. I went with a G VS2 to make sure I wouldn't see anything. You might want to try other vendors here because some of them will be able to get you images of the SI1 diamonds so that way you can keep your color. The dimensions look good on that diamond. Good luck.

hi todd :)

you can ask BN to hold the stone, then ask them to call the person who is holding the stone and tell them what your definition of eye clean is, and ask whether the stone in question meets that definition. my experience is that their responses have always been accurate, but you''d still have to take that info for what it''s worth because it''s a subjective question and it IS the vendor you''re asking when all''s said and done. but my experience, as i said, has always been good.

if the stone comes and it''s not to your liking, you can always return it, and while you actually have it you can always get a jeweler to look at it and give further appraisal if you like.

for what this is worth - i''ve bought many stones from BN, and the only one i''ve returned because i could see flaws was graded VVS1! i''ve never had problems with any of the SI1 stones i''ve bought. go figure...

good luck!

Thanks for all the input. I''m having BN contact their supplier to see if eye clean or not. I know there are going to be inclusions in any stone I get, but is a crystal an automatic cause for concern in a stone? Also, is there a guide for what % of the stone should be above and below the girdle or am I just driving myself nuts with this?

A crystal is not a reason to be concerned. Depending on the color of the crystal and its location it may be visible with the naked eye, but why worry about it. Just wait to see what the supplier says. On the percentages, yes, you are just driving yourself nuts. If the crown and pavillion angles work together properly, then the stone will perform well. Those numbers are more critical than the percentages. The numbers on the diamond you posted are excellent, so no worries there, either.

The diamond looks promising by the numbers, as to whether it is eyeclean to your standards or not then you would need to ask BN.

OK, I ordered the diamond today based on Steve at BN telling me that they had talked to their supplier and it was 100% eye clean. I''m hoping they are correct. I''ll find out in the morning!! I''ll update when I get it. Is buying a diamond ALWAYS this nerve wracking?? Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.

It is. :)

Good Luck.
