Can someone pls give their opinion on this ideal cut princess Blue Nile diamond? The specs are below. I am planning on selecting a ridged contour platinum setting for this diamond. Attaching a picture of the ring as well as a link to the details page on blue nile below.

Carat weight: 1.12
Cut: Signature Ideal
Color: H
Clarity: IF
Depth %: 69.0%
Table %: 70%
Symmetry: Very good
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Thin to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.03 x 5.84 x 4.03 mm
Crown height: 8.6%
Length/width ratio: 1.03

I am skeptical about the crown height. Is that a bit low? What abt the depth and table size?

Also any suggestions on diamond insurance would be very heelpful? Is the coverage for jewelry under the renter''s insurance sufficient for a diamond?

Link to contour setting details page:

Appreciate any helpful tips/insight into this particular selection.

Thanks
Anand

I decided to put forth my sales pitch to get a reply ;)

Jokes aside, I am planning on popping the question next week and I am really bound by time. Any expert advice from this pool of very knowledgeable members will really help me make the decision. However minor your input is, I will really appreciate that.

Thanks again
Anand

Sorry you haven't got a reply yet, welcome!

I don't know much about Princess cuts to help you, sorry! Things such as an ASET image would be useful to help judge this diamond, but I don't think BN provide this service. Check out this thread to read about ASET

With insurance, you want a good policy which will cover you also against damage to the diamond. Unfortunately, it isn't unheard of for a diamond to chip and Princess cuts have been known to chip on the corners on occasion. Regarding insurance companies, some here have used;

www.jewelersmutual.com and www.chubb.com

These companies specialise in jewellery insurance, so they might be the best people to check out, unless you have a clear agreement in writing with your renters policy that the diamond is covered against damage - don't assume anything. You would need to check your policy carefully to see what is actually covered for the diamond.

Thanks a bunch Lorelei

!!

I am planning on taking the stone to an appraiser here in Virginia, once I purchase it. Her profile indicates that she uses ASG''s ASET viewer as one of her tools. So I guess that is good news.

Thanks a bunch on your tips for purchasing insurance. I will pay these sites a visit as well as check my renter''s insurance policy.

Any other observations on the dimensions of this particular stone (as stated in this thread), girdle thickness, etc. are much appreciated

You are most welcome!

Also as DB said, you could definitely drop your clarity if you wished and still have a very clean diamond. That is also a good move with the appraiser, BN have a good return policy in case you decide against this diamond. Also as DB says you may have to get your skates on if you want to get the ring completed by Christmas!!

Best of luck!

Thanks Dimonbob !!

Based on you feedback, the crown height seems to be the one factor that might be off on this particular stone. I will see if I can find anything better.

And I am pretty much of the same opinion too when it came to clarity - the only reason I was looking at the IF clarity stone was for braggging points :) !!!!
