Opals!

At my city's Museum of Natural History, there is an opal exhibit this month. We went down to check it out. Here is some eye candy for all the opal lovers! Of course the colors were so much more fabulous in person.

I actually had one in my shoe the other week, couldn't figure out what was buggin' me so badly!!

And my friend has the opal garden, she has about 8000 carats of Coober Pedy white opal scattered in her garden and pond as a feature!!

I love opals.
I'm surprised I don't have one.

You don't have one because a good stone these days is hard to find.

Seriously. LOTS of synthetic Gilson opal out there being sold as real opal, and that's before you've got into the doublet/triplet issue. Like most gemstones, it's a total pain figuring out treatments/scams etc. and there are a few which are opal-specific. Diamonds are much simpler!

I love opals. They are ethereal, magical and beautiful.
And fragile so you must treat them with love and care because they are so precious.
