Hi everyone. I'm new here and I'd like to know more about jewelries. I live in the Philippines and we have an abundance of pearls and other jewelries but a couple of weeks ago, I did my first purchase of an opal necklace. I know nothing about opals but this one stunned me at first sight.

I've gotten multiple compliments on it and I find it well set.

The opal itself is 10mm. Doesn't show sign of it being fake. It's has a whitey translucence color. If i put it on top of a book, you'll be able.to read the letters underneath. It gives a dominant blue green color however, sometimes it's orange-pink. See in the attached picture, without flash it's mostly green but with flash it becomes orange! The gold is 14k.

How would you rate this piece and how much do.you think is it worth? I've been wearing this everyday and my pearls are starting to get jealous! Haha

It is very pretty but not sure about depth if you can read letters through it. Hopefully you will also post regarding pearls as your country is known for its pearl industry and sale of fresh water pearls and cultivated salt water pearls.

Looks like Wello / Ethiopian opal to me. Very pretty! No idea what it is worth though. Just enjoy it :wavey:

Crystal opal is nearly transparent so being able to read through it is not a cause of alarm. As HotPozzum said, it looks like Ethiopian Wello material.
