Ok, I've finally stopped staring at my new diamond long enough to really inspect the setting and I've noticed that one of the prong tips is not quite as high or "thick" as the others. I don't know if I'm just being really sensitive about it, or if it's something I should get checked out. Here's a pic. It's the prong tip on the lower left hand corner. I've noticed from different angles that it's slightly lower than the others and when looking at it face up, as in the pics, it doesn't look as "thick".

Am I being paranoid/crazy or does anyone else notice this?

The prongs are probably all the same size but the bottom left prong was tipped differently. It can be easily fixed just need to find a good benchman. Can you send it back to the person who set it? Maybe go somewere else?

I would almost say that the bottom left prong is tipped the best and the other three are too thick!

Here''s another pic. Again, it''s the prong tip in the lower left hand corner. Also, I''m wondering if it''s something that can be fixed without getting a whole new head. I know they can shave down prongs to make them smaller, but can they "build them up"?

Lastly, is this a security issue or just an aesthetic issue on my part? Should I be considered about the prong not being stable enough and eventually the diamond coming loose?

Excuse my ignorance, Beach, but what exactly do you mean by "tipped" differently?

And yes, I am planning to go back to where I got the stone/setting in February, so can ask about it then, but just wondering what other''s thoughts were. If it''s a safety issue, should I go sooner than February?

It is mostly cosmetic. No worries about the stone not being safe. This happens alot and can be fixed easily.

Personally, I like the botton left tipping job, I think the other corners are too bulky.

wow what a ball of fire!!!
On close inspection it may look a touch different though more pics from different angles would help to evalute the prongs as to what to do about it... How much is it bothering you?

I thought about that too, Beach, but was wondering if by shaving down the other 3 it would become loose more easily...

Tipping is the finishing job on the prongs the benchman does after he/she set the diamond. looks like the person did not really focus on the fine details.

Savvymon -- well, now that I''ve noticed it, it''s bugging me a lot! LOL!

Maybe I need to just go back to staring at the stone instead!

I really don''t think the prongs are different sizes, just the tips were squashed down on the other three so they look bigger? Am I right?

Beach, I agree with you re: the smaller sized prong looking better.

Oh, ok...Beach, so do you think I could just ask them to tip the others a bit more to make them even?

Yep... It should not be a problem. I speak from my own similar experience. I was very picky lol :) So many benchmen don't care about the fine details so you want to find one that does.. Alot of them just want to set the diamond.

I agree about the smaller prong as well, just worried about the possibility of it not being secure enough. I''m awfully paranoid! LOL

It would drive me up the wall!!!

I noticed one diamond is set slightly off in my friendship ring and it really bugs me.

I don't think the prong is smaller, it is just the other three prongs were blobbed down...

As for the prongs not being secure enough, people forget the 4 prong rings are thicker than 6 prong styles that are thinner. It is secure.

Thanks so much you guys! It really eases my mind to know that A) I''m not crazy and B) It can be easily fixed. As long as it''s not a security issue, I think I''ll wait until February when I plan to go to my jeweler again (for a pink sapphire!) and have him make them all the same size!

Have I mentioned that I LOVE this website! LOL

ditto beach. I''d want all the corners to look like the bottom left one.

Yea, now that I look at it more close up (thanks to the zoom/macro feature on my camera) I really like the look of the smaller prong tip, as it better accentuates the octagonal shape of the Asscher. Right now it looks too "square" and I''ve had a lot of people comment on my "princess" cut diamond

So, ok, yea, I will have them make the other 3 prongs look like the one on the lower left. Thanks all!!!!

Yeah... It''s a little off, but should be fixed easily.
