Is anyone familiar with what this company/product is or does? Hubby & I toured a home today we are considering making an offer on, and it had what looked like a network panel in a closet with a bunch of Ethernet cables that look to be wired all through the house, we’re guessing, and this cover was on the panel of cables:

I went to the website which redirects to Legrand.us, and it seems like they do various home automation, networking, etc. I figure - if we buy - we can get a rep out to the house to advise what is in place/set-up, what we can leverage or add to it to utilize, etc. But never having heard of the company, thought I might see if anyone else has, or uses/d them that could clarify anything.

Thanks!

Little update in case anyone was interested ... I did some digging and called the company, and found out it is what I thought - the entire home is wired for voice/data/cable-coax, and this box is basically the ‘command hub’ for it all, which I’m THRILLED with because I had cables being run all over the place under my current home, and would much prefer this “command center” set-up for our telecom/data needs, especially since I work from home full time.

We are actually now under contract on this home and we are super excited because it’s a KILLER deal on an amazing home ... something that rarely happens in the real estate market, especially when it’s a sellers’ market like it is here right now. We close the end of April, and the house makes me feel like I’ve now found two ‘needles in a haystack’ in the past month (my WF ES diamond being the other).

Now to just finish the renovations to mine and (hopefully) get it on the market the week after we move.

I'm always worried about something like that spying on me lol. But I'm naturally suspicious. We have a bid on a house now but it was so hard to find what we wanted. Even then we will have to do massive renovation, put in a pool etc. I wish I could stay in my house here, it's breaking my heart to have to leave. I love this place. But I can't justify wasting an obscene amount of money on property taxes. Plus this way I'll be close to my parents.

I’m not worried about spying; it’s just that the house was built pre-wired so there is Ethernet & such in all the rooms, which is a better & more reliable and secure connection than WiFi. The hi-speed modem & router would just go in this space to extend the service throughout the home.
Good luck with the bid! :appl: Home buying can be soooo stressful! We are going the opposite direction with taxes (will be paying more than twice what I pay now), but the trade off is worth it, and we thankfully have no renovations aside from some minor cosmetic stuff to do (change paint colors, landscaping, etc) ... the house is otherwise turn-key, and it ticked every single box we had in terms of location, sq ft, BRs/BAs, etc. The reason it’s a steal for us is because it’s been passed over (and consequently the price has been reduced several times) for 6+ months as a result of how prospective buyers perceived the yard - the neighbors fence extends half way into ‘our’ home’s back yard. :doh:I asked our realtor to find out ahead of time why it hadn’t sold, and when she told me (she asked the listing agent), I pulled the plat before we went to look at it so we could assess it when we got there.

The neighbor apparently never got a survey (or ignored it when she bought the house 2 years ago with the fence already installed), and our sellers haven’t lived in the home to know what was going on with the fence being on their property. Their listing agent never bothered to look into the feedback she was getting and review the plat for the property to address this for her sellers who live out of state - a darn shame for them! Needless to say, I’d NEVER hire nor recommend that listing agent to anyone for failing to identify this obvious problem from the get-go. The house should have sold months ago for $40k more than we are buying it. Their loss - our gain, because it IS being addressed now with the survey, and the neighbor will be relocating her fence.

Sounds like you're being smart and getting a good deal...except for the taxes lol. With this house it's up to the bank to accept the bid because the current owner is not paying on the mortgage. I think it's a good deal, but it was really hard to find a nice house with 40+ acres and woods and water, and I really wanted a nice view. The house is probably bigger than I'd like at 9,000 sf and it's got radon issues that the owners never addressed :-o among other things, but we can fix that. It just makes me feel exhausted thinking about all that has to be done.

WOW ... you really are “buying the farm”. That does sound like a lot to take on, but if you’re getting a good deal, then it’ll all work out and be worthwhile. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. :appl:

Yea, we are not looking forward to the taxes, but the rest of it should make for a happy home for us. We’re banking on it being a 12-14 year home for us, after which ALL the kids should be out the door and we can then downsize to something smaller for us and pay cash. This would be just a couple years prior to us hitting retirement age as well.

Lol. We had our kids out of the house....but then they came back.
