Hi - me again,
Just pulled this out of the junk jewllery collection before it was given to my daughter and just wanted to confirm that I’m looking at a cheap garnet?
it’s a silver armband that has nearly snapped through and was going to be junked.
(my daughter repurposes old jewellery to make earings)
Photos are below. Thankyou in advance for any wisdom you can lay on me.
(Please ignore them Cartier box it was only for photography purposes).

Yes, it's a common garnet. The reason it looks bad is because it is really dirty underneath the stone. If you get in there and clean it (I'm guessing there's a small hole behind it) it will look much better.
This dates to the 1980s or 90s. This was a really popular style probably made in Thailand or Bali.
Too bad it's broken. Someone tried to make it smaller and squeezed it in the wrong way and stressed the weakest area.

But the moonstone necklace! Tell us about that!
You could remove the missing one, and rearrange the drops in the front to make it wearable again! I love it!

There isn’t a hole behind unfortunately - I was actually going to attempt to pull it out myself to get a good look at it.
probably not worth the effort.
thankyou!
The moonstone necklace I won’t be throwing away! Unfortunately I can’t wear silver as it turns black on me (although whatever metal this is already looks dark). So I will be looking at either having something made for my daughter or selling them.
Thanks so much for your advice.

She is pretty creative but only works with cheap materials like large colourful pom-poms or slinky’s, computer chips etc to make overly fun earrings. She has made some that are little leather bound books with keys etc so I could see her using little jars to put the gems in and then turning them into earings.. so I’m collecting all the cheap gems or fake ones for her to use.
I actually think the garnet is lovely too - it has a really nice cut to it.
still tempted to dig it out of the silver because the cuff is split..... but don’t want to break the stone.

My sister is pretty crestive and has been playing around with earings of late
She has a fashion design degree so i guess she knows what she's doing - her millinary is outstanding

So I save up all my old broken fashion costume jewlery for her
However ive seen a couple of things lately - miniture table top xmas trees decorated with faux jewles and also a planter decorated similar
So im holding off sending the package
Also i found someone in Auckland that does restringing of custume jewlery - i can't do it -
i enjoy the process but it becomes too busy and totally unwearable
