Hi All:

I am looking to buy and old European Cut diamond and wanted to know what the specs would be to look for in one of these beauties....I am aware of the the specs for a brilliant cut but not OEC. I also found that Lannyte makes them as well..Any comments or help is much appreciated. Most important I guess is the cut so if you know what depth and table, girdle, ca, pa, etc...All so appreciated...
Best to all,
Marla

Hi, Marla, you really have to judge OECs individually and by appearance only. I'd suggest looking through Love Affair Diamonds and Jewels by Grace to see a lot of magnified images of OECs that range from good to excellent. You'll learn to detect facet patterns that are pleasing to your eye. You can also post potential stones here to get opinions of those with more experience with OECs.

Just FYI, here are the characteristics GIA looks for in order to grade a stone as an OEC. But we have seen OECs that they have not designated as such, too.

Lannyte is an overpriced CZ.
