Thank you to DiaGem for cluing me into this cut.

Other than the Golconda and the photo that DiaGem posted, I''ve only been able to locate ONE other stone in this shape online. Are they just not popular? I think they''re pretty, graceful, and might lend themselves to a halo, which I don''t care for with regular marquise stones.

I don''t like this setting - it''s too busy for me, but it''s another example of oval the oval marquise:

I find they are well sought after..., they are just not around..., they used to be cut that way a long time ago!!

I used to deal in old cut diamonds. Although I have owned several of these shapes, I always found round outlines were what were most sought after. I never came across lots of oval or (m)oval shapes, but I found several over the years which had a lot of beauty. Many were less deeply cut types which had more than average light leakage, but they enjoyed a pretty outline and a larger look.

Okay... bear with me - I''m complete novice.

Old-cut marquise and oval marquise are not the same cut? Or, are the stones pictured just of incomparable quality...

Is there an especially good source for old cut diamonds?

Thanks to both of you for your replies!

OK..., Old-Cut Diamonds possess different appearances due to the fashion they were cut historically. Today''s cutting is more precise and serves a different visual and lighting environment. Antique cuts have an appeal that suits a certain type of taste,

The stones are in-comparable mainly due to their appearance..., In the case of the Golconda Diamond..., if its a true Golconda..., the transparency is in-comparable.

If you research here on PS..., you will find plenty of good reliable sources!!!
