Hi Gosia! Well, I don't have great news. #2 looks pretty bad by the numbers. # 1 sounds better...might not be great, but might be good.... I would also think about a Vs2 or eye clean si1...that way you can focus on the quality of the cut more...

Quality of the cut...I was thinking a very good cut was a good thing..is it not? After reading everything as much as I have, am I a lost cause? LOL...hmmmm confusion setting in....drowning....lol

I mean this nice nice, but #2 is far from a good cut. I would say it is average at best. Have you looked at the gemappraisers chart...which gives you a good idea of where to START. Most agree that to get a good crown angle, depth should be smaller or equal to or not much bigger than depth....#2 fails there...and it's also very deep. #1 has a much better shot...here are a few I liked:

Looking for more!

Also, I don't like those girdles...X thin to thick....Very thin to thick is a little better but still would cencern me...chipping!

Wow, thanks for the info..I will have to check out that site some more...

Anyone bought from dirtcheapdiamonds before?

See, you think you know things...and you dont sometimes...

If you have any more, I would love to look at them...

the name of that company kind of scares me though, I have to admit...

LOL...they have a great rep here. Don't be scared. I LOVE princess cuts. Hubby needs the computer but will look later!!!! Others will also have suggestions...Go to Gemappraisers.com....there is a cut grade chart to use as a guideline...

I have bought from Dirtcheapdiamonds (I bought round stones for earrings recently), and Jim Schultz is a straight forward, honest guy to deal with.

They seem to be getting some really nice sontes lately (at least there are lots of people her finding stones to recommend from them), so that is nice -- makes for a good selection. Jim will honestly tell you what he thinks makes a difference or doesn't about the stone. A little knowledge on your part is useful so that you can decide if you agree, based on your criteria. The gemappraisers table of fancy specs is probably a good start for basic cut specs.
You are right -- this isn't simple stuff -- especially the fancy shapes! But, dealing with honest people and having lots of info available willhelp you wade through it.

Good luck, and come back with more questions or for mor opinions! (we have lots of those...

OMG- look at this one. THis is my favorite yet....Unless you're dead set on an F...I'd drop the clarity and would consider a G...a well cut G...b/c of the brilliance and fire will look just as white as the F!!!! There is NO guarantee with just numbers, but they are a great start...this is one amazing looking stone by the numbers: Union also has a great rep here!

Thank you so much....if anyone else has an opinion, I would love to hear it, of course. I do know that she wants somewhere around .65-.75 carat ring, as thats as big as she thinks will be ok with what she does for a living (teacher, always around kids)...

so, you think a G color would be ok, but with a very good cut?

This one you pointed out at union diamond came out with a 4A rating at gem appraisers, i.e. a poor and below average rating...now I am for sure confused!

I do not think you will have any problem with G or even H in a well cut stone. I purchased a round brilliant in about the same carat weight as the ones you are looking at. It is an H by AGS and a G by Richard Sherwood and it is a real sparkler.

hello gosia,

i am a fellow princess lover and looking to get one in a couple of months for a very special day!!!! anyway, i think you may have accidently put in the wrong url because the diamond from uniondiamond could not be a 4a. also, you may want to try out some other highly reputable vendors here such as...

www.goodoldgold.com
www.superbcert.com
www.whiteflash.com

although i don't plan on purchasing a diamond until fall i began my research quite early and i love/hate it because im having so much fun but its very addicting [:nono: i always frequent those sites just to see whats in stock. you may find something there you would like, the cool thing is that i am looking for a diamond in about the same carat range as you. anyway, have fun and gl with the research

Hi and thanks...Yes, someone else posted that one from Union, and then i ran the numbers and it came up Poor. I will continue my search, taking into account everyones advice..one last questiong...when comparing table to depth, i have seen SO many different "this is the way you want it" answers...what is the real one?

Thanks for all your help, i feel better informed now!

ummmm....were you looking at the PRINCESS chart? Ummmm, it's a 1A.

And there is no answer to the perfect depth and table. That's why this is so hard. There is an interplay of numbers...and you can't figure those out with just depth and table...BUT, looking online, the best way to help narrow down the field is to look for table around depth. It doesn't HAVE to be smaller...but it certainly doesn't hurt...

AND LOL...if that's a "poor" cut...god help us all....Ya, I"m pretty sure you were looking at the Round cut chart...LOL...give me a little more credit than that please!

haha, that is for sure, if that is a poor cut i am packing up my bags and settling for an egagement watch or something else
rodent.gif

LOL...an engagement watch? wouldn't life be so much easier??? Wasn't there a thread about "engagement chicken" or something...

Sorry about that, I must have used the wrong one! LOL

OK, you can have more credit!

Im thinking of putting a quarter in a gumball machine and hope to get a spider ring...i think its just plain easier.
