Oh my gosh, we might be getting a car!!!!!

Ok, so this is HUGE news for us so I had to share! J and I have been looking at getting a super cheap used car so that he can get more hours at work (he does home medical care and could get to more houses with a car) and because it would just be awesome to have. We have an almost non-existent budget (£500), so we were set on having to get a car that was 12-15 years old and hopefully not *quite* ready to die. BUT, one of J''s sisters has just offered to sell us her VW Passat that''s nowhere near 12 years old for £500! She knows that''s our budget and is purposefully lowering the price so it''s in our range! If she wasn''t 200 miles away right now, I would absolutely kiss her!!! It''s so much better than what we could afford from a sales ad or something!!

YAY!!!!!!! I''ve missed having a car so much!! (I''ve been without for just over a year and a half and it SUCKS!) This is such great news!! I am so excited!!!!

I have driven here and in Australia (more there) when renting cars and it''s not weird at all, really--because everything''s in reverse, it sort of feels ok after a few minutes, even though it''s different. The only slightly odd thing is shifting with your left hand (yes, it''s a manual--almost all the cars here are), but it''s fine. Kinda cool, really, but then again I absolutely adore driving in general, so my dorkiness probably shades that a bit.

As for me driving *this* car, that will have to wait a while. Although I could submit my Maryland license to get a UK provisional license, we don''t really have the money for me to be on the insurance (especially as a *cough* "new" driver, since my 13 years experience at home mean nothing). But it''s plenty exciting enough now to just have ACCESS to a car, even if I myself won''t be able to drive it yet!
