Hi everyone,

I''ve been doing tons of research here, and have learned lots from your posts, honesty and knowledge, so thank you for sharing! Before I really get into what I would like your opinions on, I really have to thank Erica of Jewels by Erica Grace! I''ve dealt with a few online vendors for more modern pieces of jewelry, and have never been treated so wonderfully. She is infinitely patient with me changing my mind, extremely knowledgeable about the diamonds and jewelry she sells, will offer her expertise at a moments notice, and it''s like emailing a friend. She''s 2 hours behind me and yet her responses are always immediate! She truly wants her clients to have the diamond or ring of their dreams and will do ANYTHING to help them get it. I would highly recommend her to anyone, and am more than willing to discuss via email with anyone who would like more info.

That being said, my DH as agreed to an e-ring upgrade and I''ve been looking at these two items from Erica. Actually, I have her holding the ring for me. Here''s the situation, I can buy either the ring (which is an original antique piece) and have the complete ring, or I can buy the diamond, but will have between $400 to $900 to spend for a setting. We''re so blessed because we were able to just buy a home, and DH would like to use more money for buying furniture (he''s got a good point). So, would you choose the ring or the loose diamond? I''d also like to know why? Which stone do you prefer? I figure I can always get the setting of my dreams later, but am dying to know what y''all think. Thanks.

What is the difference in price between these 2?

Ditto that and also what is the difference in size? I like the look of the loose stone better then the stone in the setting but I love the setting too soooo........ I am no help but I am so glad you have such a wonderful problem

Do you like the stone in the ring? Do you like the setting? If you like the setting, how much would it cost to get a setting like that down the road? If you bought the loose stone, do you have a setting picked out and how much is it? Financially the ring may be the best deal.

Sorry, instead of helping with answers, I giving you more questions

Can''t wait to see which you decide on.

Hi Stone-cold and Diamondbug

The difference in price is $1,000. The stats of each are:

The Ring

Approximately.90 (centerstone only)
Measures 6.5 mm from the center of the stone to the edge of the ring
G/H color
VS to VVS in clarity
$2,650

Loose Diamond

1.21 ct
6.76x6.78x3.93
J/K color
VS clarity
$3,750

Diamondbug, you crack me up! I''m going to look at a couple of local jewelers tomorrow for settings. I did like the JA Timeless, but read a kind of disappointing review of it here. I''ve also looked at the WF Legato Sleekline, and liked it as well. I''m open to suggestions though, if anyone has ideas.

I would buy the larger stone. They''re both gorgeous, both fall within the specs that I like, and in that case, I default to a larger size. HOWEVER, if I were in your position, with a new house and furniture to buy...I''d buy the complete ring. I love that setting as is, and you''re not going to get that intricate of work for the setting budget you have.

Good luck deciding, you can''t go wrong between those two!

PS - I bought my antique cushion cut from Grace, and I''m sure she remembers that the 1.21 was actually the one I was initially interested in! I still love it, but when my budget went up, I went for a bigger size!

Glad that I crack you up..... I am constantly telling my 6yr old son that it is better to make others laugh rather than cry!! He thinks we are mean when we laugh at all the cute things he says and does so I tell him better we laugh when we see him than start crying when he is around!

So the ring is more budget friendly especially with a new house but which stone do you like and do they have a trade up policy? If so, I would get the ring for now and trade up later when budget permits BUT I notice that the setting style that you are considering ( both beautiful and elegant btw) for the loose stone is waaay different than the ring you have on hold. Do you like the solitaire setting better? If so it makes better sense to me for you to buy the loose stone ( providing you like it better) and get the setting you want..... actually why are you considering the ring? Do you like the center stone better? If so, can you just buy the stone and put it in a setting you like? I feel that when buying a ring, especially something this expensive, you should at least be crazy in love about something in the ring, be it the setting or the stone e.g. love the stone but will upgrade the setting or love the setting and upgrade stone later.

For me, I love the loose stone.... it speaks to me. And the fact that it is bigger is just icing on the cake. In my perfect world, I would swap the center stone cause I love the ring setting.

Am I any help?

It''s a beautiful ring, but ... I vote for the larger stone. I''m an instant gratification kinda gal myself, but .30 points is a substantial difference in size, and you''ll probably appreciate that in years to come. And on a more to-the-point level, I just plain think the cut on the larger stone is prettier (though that''s subjective). Which do *you* like more, how and why?

So the total $$ of the loose stone is going to be bigger? Not what I expected...

If you want to save some $$ I would go with the mounted stone as it is quite some cash saved.

Difficult decision, go with your gut on this one, if you prefer the larger diamond then you can put it into a simple setting now then upgrade the setting later as finances permit as you say. Although its hard to tell from the photos and might not be a fair comparison, the larger stone looks better to me.

I am positively drawn to that setting and the stone in it. There is something about the loose stone that just feels "off center" to me and I can''t figure out why. My eye goes to where it feels the center should be and then has to move over to the cullet. With the ring, I am drawn to that gorgeous circle of dimaonds, then the stone right down to the cullet. It has my vote no matter what!

Justginger - Thank you...I''d love to see pics of your antique cushion. Are pics posted here? Normally, I''m with you all the way, if I have the budget for a bigger diamond, then that''s what I would do. In this case, I absolutely love the setting, and the center stone has more old mine feel to it which I love (at least on the computer screen). The 1.21 however is TDF, I think.

Diamondbug - Unfortunately, no, I cannot buy the stone and setting separately...it''s on consignment. I would love to put the 1.21 in that setting. Unfortunately, I missed my jeweler here today, so haven''t been able to see any settings locally yet.

Circe - LOL...I know the feeling. I like instant gratification too! Which is why I''m really trying to take the time and choose the one I will adore forever. :)

OOPS...gotta run...but will respond to the other comments later. Thank you ladies! :)

Hi Sparkly,

I just bought a ring from Jewels by Erica Grace as well and I have to agree that their customer service is fantastic! I love the ring me and the FF bought very much.I really don''t think you can go wrong with either piece, but personally I''m kind of leaning towards the bigger stone.good luck!

Stone-cold - Money is a consideration; however, my budget has just gone up a little bit. Yay!

Lorelei - Both are beautiful stones. Erica and I were actually emailing about them again today. I will attempt (LOL) to put links into both.

Link to .90

Link to 1.21

Jean - I too am drawn into the stone. Not to mention, it is an original antique setting! That''s rare.

Hi Amzizzle - Congrats on your ring. I''m definitely considering the bigger stone especially since I found a couple of settings at Pearlman''s that will fit into our budget. I''ll have to find your post!

Ha. Just saw that thread. That was my ring. I bought it from JBEG and then traded it a year later for the big 3 stone on their site. I don''t know if you decided but that ring is lovely and you would not go wrong with it. I wore it with a Singlestone OEC band and under the right lighting, the combo would put your eye out.

I have to say that ring at that price seems like a real steal! If I was trying to save money I think I would take that and add a fun non-matchy
wedding band to it. It woudl be a nice blingy little set.

really hard to say to choose. Would you regret getting a bigger stone if you went with the ring since you mentioned that it is not your dream setting and that you'd like to get your dream setting in the future, and by this I vote the Larger stone and set it in a temp setting until you can afford your dream setting, as settings to me are important to showcase your beautiful diamond (even if it means you have to delay for just a while longer)

Gosh this it hard. Personally, I love the ring. However, if you''re iffy about the ring then it makes sense to go with the stone.

I love the ring, but I think that for the size difference...I''d go for the loose stone.

It really is a difficult dilemma. How interesting that TG owned that ring? Nothing like a first hand opinion of how it looks!

If you love the setting, then I''d go with that ring. The center stone is a sparkler for sure and the setting is really eye catching.

If I didn''t absolutely love the setting, then I''d get the larger stone even if I had to choose a temporary setting for it.
