Hi all,

I'm having a ring custom made, and you all have been great so far re: suggestions for vendors for both the center stone and custom settings. I'm working with the jeweler on CAD pics right now, and have already had the CAD pictures modified twice and I still want some other changes...

I feel like I'm pushing it a little, but I really want to get this right before it's cast. How many rounds of CADs have other custom folks gone through? I just don't want to be annoying my jeweler.

Thanks for the help!

Here is one of the pics -- does anyone know what this method of setting melees is called? Or even better have pics of what it would look like once done? (edited to add: pics of what the melee setting method looks like when complete, obviously not pics of what the ring would look like)

I like it! Are you going to have the metal smooth?

The only thing I'd worry about is that the metal on the sides of the center diamond might overwhelm the center.

I agree that there should be less metal in the center so the center stone isn't overwhelmed.

I want the metal to be polished, not brushed. (is that what you mean by smooth?)

I think I want to go with having the whole thing bead set. I'm just not sure what the current melee setting in this picture would look like though so I'm not 100% decided yet.

Thanks for your input Jelly!

Having the melee bead set would look best IMHO. I think it''s a lovely design, and glad the sides will be thinned out a bit so the center stone isn''t overwhelmed. But these cad images always look more garrish than what the ring will actually look like in the end. Trust me I have been through this before. It''s a great process but can be a bit nerve racking.

The only name that comes to mind is gypsy set, but I am sure that is not right, LOL.
Regardless, it looks like it will be one gorgeous ring once it is complete!

I''m not sure if I''m seeing this correctly, but it looks VERY similar to the ribbon ring Tiffany''s currently has (I''ve attached a picture). I think the manner which you have the melee set is called hammer set but I''m not sure as to that either. I agree that bead set would look much better as there will be less metal (which is what the Tiffany''s ring is like).

Good find, I knew I had seen this design before.

Hmm...I may be off here, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will pop in... but the diamonds in that rendering look "burnished" to me...meaning that metal around each stone is a given, and there would be no 'beads'...

Am I wrong?

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about..

PS: Hammered? Gypsy set? Burnished? LOL...one of us must be right!
