out of the bag in terms of my GF knowing that I intend to propose, should I let her help choose the ring itself? I''m leaning towards using WF and just choosing a basic tiffany-style setting because I''d like at least something to be a surprise. She is not into fancy or flashy jewelery so I don''t think that I could go wrong with a classic look.

BTW, she thinks her fingers are "thick" (Why is it that even the most beautiful women can find flaws with their bodies? I guess that is a question for another place and time

) Nonetheless, that is her perception so I guess it is my reality. Given that, would I be better off with the standard tiffany-style WF design or the heavier one?

since the cat''s out of the bag, i''d let her be involved in the choosing. Take her ring shopping and let her try on a bunch of settings to get an idea of what she likes and what looks good on her. Then you can purchase from WF or another vendor of your choosing to get her exactly what she''d want. make the *when* of the proposal the surprise

What they said.

That''s what my husband did and I am glad

I think he would have picked something nice, but not necessarily my taste. We got the rings in April and he waited until September to propose, by then I wasn''t expected it at every little special thing we did. So it was a surprise! Although I was getting a little worried that he wasn''t going to...

Well, the consensus is pretty clear as to what I should do. However, I guess that I should have mentioned the price factor before all these "ittos" started ricocheting around the forum. I'm 99% sure I'm getting the diamond from WF, I want them to set it, and my choices are kind of limited in the $500-$650 range that I'm thinking. I'd rather put the money into the stone (I'm going with ACA H&A one carat G SI1) rather than the ring.

Back to since the cat is out of the bag, find out what SHE wants. would she want a 1 carat in solitaire, or maybe a slightly smaller stone and more elaborate setting? I do agree, that putting the budget into the stone is a great idea and all you''ll really have left to do is a simple setting. so, I''d probably make that choice too. But, i''m not her and there are plenty of gals who would choose a smaller stone in order to get their dream setting

I agree with what everyone else has said. Since the cat is out of the bag, go shopping together, get an idea of what she likes, she might not even know at this time, but once she starts trying different ones on you two can figure it out together, maybe at least rule out what she doesn''t like. I have smaller hands so we opted for a smaller diamond and my dream setting! :D My fiance was awesome enough to let me ummm give him many many hints?! (I want this one!) I knew exactly what I wanted though. He chose the stone and when and where to propose.

Yup yup, that''s me right there. I''d go shopping with her so she gets an idea of what she likes, and if she''s still pretty ''meh'' about settings, then I''d opt for the classic solitaire and get the biggest stone within budget.

Have fun shopping together!!!

Since the cat is out of the bag, ask her if she wants to be surprised or involved. I preferred being involved, but many women want the surprise.
