Hello my friends, I am going to get the 2.36 Asscher appraised. I am sooooo excited and cannot thank you enough for all your help and encouragement. You are total Rock Stars! Now I;m on to the setting part and have some questions.
I would like to have a yellow gold solitaire band with white gold prongs and a setting where the stone doesn't stick out too much. I quite like the simple bands where the edges are flat but I dont want to detract from the beauty of the diamond. Im not loving the prongs im seeing on a lot of these websites as they look quite clunky to me.
I would love your thoughts and input on:
a) 14 or 18 c gold?
b) rounded or flat-edged band?
c) best prongs for Asscher?
I look forwrad to hearing from you!

a) 14 k is harder than 18k, so there is little advantage to 18k unless you prefer the color. For the prongs, have a look a unplated palladium white gold or platinum if you prefer lower maintenance.
b) The band profile is really up to your comfort. I have a comfort fit wedding band and triwire ering and find them equally comfortable. I have worn flat-edge bands stacked and they seem a bit more pinchy on my skin. So, I tend to like my edges eased.
c) I like point prongs, double claws or pointy tabs (see below).

DK just made a version of this setting for an asscher it is gorgeous.

Here's a thread of awesome ECs and Asschers. 38 pages of lovliness.

I adore @BrownEyedCountryGirls double claw prongs (post #18) and @idreamofcushions too (post #274).

I fudging love this setting for almost every stone!

I believe similar designs (cathedral shoulders, double claw prongs, small donut) are stocked or made by most PS favs (from what I have read). I think your stone is from GOG and it might be easiest/simplest to have them source a setting for you. (If you have a stock setting in mind. I am sure others have suggestions on custom work)

Ugh this is one of my absolute favorites! I have seen it paired with a plain band and it looks amazing!

@SimoneDi I have a slightly (ha!) smaller variant in rose gold and still drool over it every day! Just received my plain wedding band and it's so perfectly simple, dainty and refined :appl:

Which reminds me OP, did you have a particular wedding band style in mind (if you are going to wear a band with this ring?)

@totallyfree I had to spy on your posts and see your engagement ring - it is absolutely gorgeous! LM is really a master at fine, fluid and just beautiful lines! Please post a picture of it with the plain band! I really adore the look :)

OP, what is your budget, we can recommend some vendors. I personally would do platinum head and 18kt gold for the shank because I love the rich yellow color that 14kt yellow gold just doesn't have. I also absolutely would select double prongs for the asscher - they will provide the needed protection while still leaving it "open" to light. Double prongs just look more "airy" to me and not bulky.

I don't like the double close prongs on asschers. Icot cur corners I want to show off my cut corners. Tab prongs would be my choice, might even set them nsew instead of at the corners. Just my 2¢

Yeah I have to agree Niel - cut corners need flat tab prongs that emphasise that lovely clipped-ness.

Hehehe. No band. This is it!!!.... I think.......hes stubborn.......took me ten years to get a ring. Ill be pushing up the daisies by the time he agrees to get married.

Yes i agree on 18 v 14 kt gold. Budget is flexible within reason :). I would love some suggestions. Stone is from Yekutiel at IDJ

So many something with a more substantial and/or detailed band then? I love my dainty ring, but anticipate having to replace or repair it soon-ish (5-7 years) as it's fine and I think it will go out of round.

I love the 'criss-cross' band posted above :)

Would nsew be safe?

If it's from IDJ I would be very confident sourcing the setting from there. Has anything on their fb or insta sparked your interest?
There is a ring video on his insta from May 8 that looks awesome - have you seen it? (I don't know how to directly link...!)

Thanks my dear. Ill take a look. Btw. What are tab prongs?

This is tab prongs:

I still prefer double or single claws, here is another example from LM:

I wouldn't be very comfortable with having IDJ create the setting, but if you want hand forged for example, both Leon Mege and Steven Kirsch are in NYC.

Because of the way the prongs fall on the asscher I don't believe it would be any less safe to do nsew prongs but I'm sure someone designing your ring could tell you.

Correction to my statement! I WOULD be very comfortable with IDJ creating the setting! They are great to work with.

Ok thanks Ill check it out. But if theres something on their site in the settings section that I like, os thatok? I dont really know anything about settings or the difference in quality between LM settings or the settings on the IDJ site... any thoughts?

@sst What is your budget?

Oh ok cool! I was hoping thta would b ethe verdict! So far IDJ has been fabulous!

@sst What is your budget?
Its a abit flexible really..... but I dont want any extra stones. I want 18 k gold band an dwhite prongs. Super simple. I dont want the stone tostick out too far from the ring.

OP, without a number it is difficult to provide a recommendation, because flexible some can read as 1-10k. However, I think that explaining your want to IDJ should be sufficient. They have a good bench.
