I went out to a tasty sushi lunch with a work friend today. As we were getting out of the car, I noticed a man and his quite young daughter standing in front of the same parking meter we were planning to use (the dual type). I also noticed they had a sweet little green bird (tropical - some type of parrot, sorry I know very little about bird types). At any rate, I smiled and said to the little girl, "What's your Birdie's name?" And she said his name was Giorgio. Her dad asked if I had change (4 parking meter quarters) for $1 so as I was getting out my wallet, he said, "Oh my gosh, that is a gorgeous ring, is that a REAL sapphire." He wasn't being at all rude, he was just somewhat surprised, I think. I said, "thank you, actually, it's a tanzanite." (I was wearing my best, most favorite, beloved ring). My colleague was laughing because anyone who knows me knows about my jewelry obsession. The little girl, to my surprise, wanted to know ALL about tanzanite. It was really sweet - she's totally a future PSer, she just doesn't know it yet. :appl:

Anyway, come share a very cool moment when someone complimented your jewelry! It was really a nice compliment and I enjoyed it. :ugeek:

I had a friend of mine ask about my Topaz ring last night. She tried it on, and oo'd and aah'ed. I put it together and it wasn't very expensive. The stone is a .70 Swiss Blue Topaz, nothing overly special... in a yellow gold solitaire trellis. She just loved it.

Aww, that's sweet, Tanzigrrl. Now, how about a picture of said ring! Would love to see the pictures to go along with everyone else's stories too!

Sure, LV. There's a thread about it from when I bought it, but now I can't find it. Here is a pic of it.

Tanzi - Gorgeous, and very eye-catching! I can see why they noticed! ::)

Wow! I would've commented about it too! Hubba hubba.

Um, yeah... I would've commented on the ring, too! Gorgeous, Tanzigrrl!

My DH was telling me the other night that when he went to the dentist this week his new hygienist commented on his wedding ring. He has a Gelin Abaci tension set ring with a .7ct RB diamond. He was pleasantly surprised that he got a comment on his ring and I thought that was so cute that he was excited about the comment.

I would've gotten drool all over that!

I frequently comment on other people's jewelry, can't help it if it's something unusually beautiful. Normally I just say, "What a lovely ring," or something similar. Hoping they'll stick their hands under my nose for a closer look. Haven't yet blurted out "Would you mind waiting while I dig out my loupe?"

The other day at the store where I buy dog food the clerk commented on my gold watch w/diamond bezel. I think it's the first time anybody has in the 9 yrs I've had it. I comment to myself on it a lot, I love it.

You all are so sweet. This tanzanite ring is my favorite piece of jewelry, of course. :rodent: My mom used to intentionally go though one particular checker's line at the grocery store because the woman working that line loves my mom's ring!

That's gorgeous! No wonder he noticed it.... which in itself is amazing. Guys hardly ever notice or say anything about jewelry.

My husband actually gets far more compliments on his ring than I do - my setting is kind of unique and most people don't like the style. But his is very pretty and unique in a good way for a men's ring, so he gets both men and women telling him how much they like it.

I'd definitely notice that tanzanite! Recently I was crammed into a train and holding on to a pole right in front of this seated middle aged man's face. He was seriously staring at my engagement ring. When the train cleared out he said, "Wow, that's an impressive ring..you must have trained him well" I thought it was kind of a odd compliment so I just said, "Well, yes in the sense that he knew to let me pick out what I wanted". It's funny when I had my much smaller .95 novo that ring stopped traffic. People complimented me on it every day. Now I suspect a lot of people probably think my new ring is fake as the man on the train is the only stranger who's said something and I've had it 5 months. My coworkers and family make an embarrassingly big fuss over it though, you'd think it was the Krupp diamond.

In the airport I was sitting by this woman with an amazing ring like 3ct RB with a 3 sided micropave halo. I told her it was beautiful and asked her who designed it, she said, "I don't know, we picked it out when we lived in florida". I couldn't believe she had a ring like that a seemingly knew nothing about it, I was sure she must be as jewelry obsessed as me. She also had my dream Tag Aquaracer watch too.

I was going to make a post about this earlier, but I got the worst hair cut ever last week.

Here are some things that were said to me during the cut:

"WOW, ARE THOSE REAL?"
"So, are you still paying off that diamond?"
"How much was that ring?"
"How much money does your husband make?"
"What does he do for a job?"
"Are your earrings real? Of course they are."
"You have an ultrasonic? Of course you do."
"What kind of house do you live in?"
"He must really love you."
:angryfire: :angryfire:

ETA... those were ALL said by the same person in a 1 hr span :nono:

WELL....I had something really interesting happen at the bar...

My FI was talking to a guy at the bar and the man he was talking to mentioned that he just proposed to his girlfriend this past July. FI told the man that he too, proposed in July. The mans Fiancee was standing by them and showed my FI her ring. SO really loves jewelry and expressed how beautiful he thought her ring was. He told her our rings looked similar and she should come see mine (I was a few chairs away). This girl didn't take that so well and decided SO was setting her up for a "competition" with my ring (he clearly was not) and so she stormed off into the bathroom until the bar closed. I had no idea any of this happened until her friend walked over to me and asked to see my ring. I showed her and she really liked it and then asked if I could go over to her friend (who was now in the bathroom) and tell her that I liked her ring, insecure much? I didn't even know how to react so the first words out of my mouth were, uhhhhhhhh...what?! It was all really awkward and the girl emerged from the bathroom an hour later.

Another interesting one I get often is, "Wow. Your FI must REALLY like you."

Some people like to ask what kind of job SO has...

I've definitely gotten some really nice compliments from people but for some reason the weird comments have been more memorable, probably because they make for a good story haha.

My dentist told me he was so interested in my sapphire and diamondring he was afraid he was going to make a mistake while he was grinding down a tooth while he was fitting me for a cap. I took it off and let him play with it for a bit and he resumed the drilling. It is an emerald cut sapphire with a micro pave double halo set in platinum. The band itself is set in rose gold.

Well I didn't get any compliments as such today but 2 different sales ladies both spoke to my ears instead of my eyes. Hey! I'm over here! :wavey:

That's better than other body parts they could be speaking to!

I would soooo comment, too - Tanzigrrl!

I'm such a commenter. Huge. I always notice jewelry and I always say something if I feel the recipient is open to it.

As the recipient, I very rarely encounter too many new people, but when I do and I happen to be wearing my Tsavorite, people will practically grab my hand to get a better look at it. It's been the only ring people really gravitate toward until this past week. I was wearing my new Rubellite and my dentist asked me question after question about it.

I was at walmart today and the cashier had a beautiful three stone ring. I kept getting annoyed that her hands were moving to quickly for me to get a good look :cheeky: but I didn't say anything.

I love to comment on others' jewelry because I know I feel great when I get complimented on mine!

I don't get comments very often, but I think that one of my favorite compliments I have received was by a friend who said that she had never seen anyone with a ring that was more suited to them than mine. It meant a lot because I love my ring so much and I don't think I could find one I loved better if I tried:)

I've been oogling one of my professor's rings. She wears a thin band, and I can tell it sparkles, but I can't tell if it's an eternity band, or engraved, or what. I swear, I spent like the first 6 weeks of the semester just staring at her ring, and not paying attention. I finally caught a glimpse of it once, when I stayed after class to ask a question. It is an eternity, and it's so adorable and thin. I'm jealous :Up_to_something:
