Hi, is it possible for a stone to weigh 3.09 carat when the cert says 3.11? Can the scales be vary that much (due to how they''re calibred - like regular weighing scales)? Also, this baby has been around since June 05, does that seem "suspicious" to you? Is something wrong with the stone, as could it be that people tend to prefer the newer certs?

I''ve seen if off by that much, but after zeroing the scales, it weighed correctly. I''d check it on another scale.

I bet people like the newer ones because it takes some of the guesswork out when they know the angles without having to call it in...

This is just a total guess... but I''m thinking that larger diamonds sit around longer than smaller ones. Probably not a whole lot of people walking around looking for a 3ct. Wish I was though!

TN,
I would think about taking this diamond to an independent appraiser to verify the weight.
I''m not sure by your post if you have bought this diamond or are thinking about buying it.
In any event, an appraiser can match the diamond to the report for your peace of mind.

Thanks for all your reply. I haven''t bought the diamond yet, but saw it recently. Will definitely take it to an independent appraiser to have them check it out first. Thanks again.
