Now that I have the blue tourmaline and am keeping it, I realize I have no idea how to set it... Accent diamonds or no accent diamonds? WG, YG, two tone? AHHHH... The only think I know is I like bezels...I think..haha, you see my problem?

Do any of you have pics of greenish-blue/teal stones you've set that you wouldn't mind sharing with me? Or does this stone "scream" anything to you?

Here's a pic of it with my blue sweater as color reference, lol.

And a pic of it with my white gold rings( it gets distinctly more green in yellow bulb lighting):

I wanted to get this done as a Birthday present (January), but if I have Julia do it I should mail it to her in October, so I have a month to brainstorm!

Thanks in advance for the help!

I was looking online for inspiration, and this ring caught my eye:

Do you happen to have photos of a round with half moons? I think I''ve only seen them with ovals...

I just started looking at CM''s site, and this one really caught my eye too :)
This is one that was already sold, and I heard he doesn''t work with outside stones, but I could use it as inspiration :) Apparently CM is around Philly, I should make a field trip!

You really have a lot of options. I think either color metal will look good. I also think diamonds would work with it. It is dark and sparkly enough to not be overpowered by diamonds.

What kind of look do you want? You have a ton of options that would look good with that stone.

Haha, the root of my problem..

My taste in jewelery tends to run towards simple, clean, delicate, and not too blingy. I love to admire halos, but I'm not personally a diamond girl as I like understated pieces that look organic (hence my love of mokume!) I like rings that are cleverly designed, like the Cartier trinity rings, or the first ring I posted. Or rings that have an interesting or distinctive design/theme (like sally's lotus rings which are simple and smooth, but very distinctive in design). Don't know if that helps, lol.

Are you still planning to set yours in a sally pillbox?

I know this might be out of your budget, but it may be good inspiration for a custom etsy piece. Sholdt seems to be a designer that fits your tastes, and the do a lot of bezel work.

Here is a sample of their work click here

Oh, sorry, don't know of any photos of rounds with half moons.

At first glance, I liked this but then thought it looked a bit "industrial". Parts of it I like, though. Love, the CM.

I also love clean, sleek & organic.

A simple x-prong is always nice. Unique Settings has a nice one that is not that expensive. Don't know if you have any already. Or Icekid's sapphire setting, but I think it might fit a lighter colored stone better:

I''d have Julia replicate the setting she did for glitterata, or a variation on it, in argentium silver.

The pic of your beautiful stone with your rings inspired me. LOL! How about setting in in a simple claw prong setting on a skinny band [a la Pomellato] for stacking? I think that would be really cool and would give you expansion possibilities. Pomellato link [can't link the flash pics]

I definitely ADORE that setting, but I wanted something low in profiles... I also feel like the setting "squares" the round stone visually somehow

Thanks for the cool site! Did you mean like in these rings?

I really like the Golden Gate setting from Cross Jewelers and think it would look pretty with your tourmaline.

my vote is for the golden gate ring above....I think that would really make the color pop.

Somehow I didn''t see diamonds around or near that stone either, so my ideas will probably be similar to your taste, MTG. Not that I have a particular reason against diamonds, it''s just a feeling, and I could be wrong (seems to me diamonds might be too white i.e. too much of a contrast for this color and downplay it). Besides, why spend money on a blingy setting if you''re more into something totally different.

I''m not sure about bezeling this one, but my main concern about that idea is the ring you''re wearing on your thumb in the photo above, as you might end up with two very similar rings if you bezel this tourmaline (right?). So I''d probably stick to prongs with this one. Designs like those of JM or CM would really work great for this stone I think. If you''re unsure about metal color, maybe it wouldn''t be a bad idea to have some YG inlays in the shank, just as a detail. Or instead of having diamonds as side stones, you can have small seed pearls - they''re organic, interesting as accents, while having gentle colors and smooth textures, so they might be a really great option.

ditto, ma re. Much as I enjoy diamond accents, they don''t seem to be your thing, MTG.

I do think white gold is probably the way to go, though did you take any photos of the stone against other colors? It would look great in a bezel with its vibrant color. The cross setting definitely looks promising, though not sure what the cost would be.
