We''ve picked a setting and a stone - and the two are planning to meet for the first time in Los Angeles at Thanksgiving. The setting is platinum, new, and has an antique design and is coming from Asia via London! The stone is a RB 1.5 ish. The maker of the setting is concerned about getting someone competent, as the prongs of the settings have diamonds at their base. He recommended Fortuane''s in Carmel (a Mara favorite, and while we''d love to go there, it''s 300 miles north of LA, and we don''t want to see something we''d have perferred!). He also recommended Martin Katz, jeweler to the stars...we''d probably prefer to deal with someone used to terrestrials like ourselves...

Does anyone know a "fine" jeweler anywhere within 100 miles of LA? Any idea of the cost? (not a factor, just an interest) Lastly, at that time of year, how much time do we reasonable need to leave the two with the jeweler?

Thanks,
Goldenringlets

One of our clients uses Charles Koll in San Diego and loves them... She lives in Nevada, buys her diamonds from us in Oregon and we ship them to Charles Koll in San Diego to have them set... It's still a drive, but it's closer than Carmel.

mmm Fortuanes....
