Hi all - new to the site, new to the whole diamond buying experience. I'm going to be proposing within the next 2-4 months and am looking for a diamond with the following specs (I know I will leave some things out, but that's where I'd like your help)...

Shape: Princess
Carat: 1.70-2.00
Cut: Very Good (quote from Blue Nile - "This cut produces the maximum sparkle in a fancy cut diamond, allowing it to reflect almost all light as sparkle and fire. This is the optimum cut for a fancy shape diamond." From what I understand, fancy shape diamonds don't come in an Ideal cut. Please correct me if I've been misinformed.)
Color: F-H
Clarity: VS2-SI1

I really don't anything about acceptable Depth %, Table %, Symmetry, Polish, Girdle or any of the other specs I should be looking for. If you can help me narrow down my specs I would also appreciate it (i.e. if I should drop the VS2 and move up on color to F-G, etc.) I really appreciate any guidance. I went looking the last two days and am completely overwhelmed. Just for kicks, I found this diamond on the Internet at a reputable site for $11,247.00. What do you all think? Let me know the likes, dislikes so I can see what you guys are judging. Thanks in advance!

Carat weight: 2.00
Cut: Very Good
Color: H
Clarity: SI1
Depth %: 72.4%
Table %: 77%
Symmetry: Good
Polish: Good
Girdle: Medium to very thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Medium blue
Measurements: 7.15x6.86x4.97 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.04

hi chadrock

some useful info can be found on the cut grading charts for princess cuts at www.gemappraisers.com. that should give you some idea of the appropriate table, depth, etc for a princess. the other specs you posted (F-H, VS2-SI1) seem right on to me!

good luck.

The table on that stone's a bit large which probably means the crown height isn't going to be there (ideally, CH should be 10 & up for a good n fiery princess).

This GOG 1.73 H VS1 looks interesting...

as does this 1.79 H VVS2

If you go on gem appraisers website & click on "AGA cut grades..." & select princess, you'll get a better idea of what you should be looking for in order to find a top-notch princess...

...and then, of course, there's this jubilee which isn't quite as square as a princess but has the brilliance of a round brilliant...

forgive me - i'm kinda on a roll

this is a list diamond but it's got a lot of potential WF 1.73 G SI1 - it's $10116 w the PS discount & payment in *cash*...

and this WF 2.01 H SI1 for $10749 which is somewhat comparable to the one you posted in carat/clarity/fluor but w a nice 69 table & 72 depth

I've heard that Denise at WF is v helpful & would probably be able to get more info on either of these if you were interested...

btw, your specs sound perfectly great - i can't imagine too many women that'd be disappointed to get such a stone!
